ParticipantI’ve been a bit spoilt with the longevity of my whitegoods,
Amana side-by-side – 25 years (I replaced the water dispenser valve), getting worn out so time for a replacement – not looking forward to that as in todays money that would costs £2900 and I only want to spend £1500.
Bosch T.Dryer – 20 years (just died, bearings I think).
Bosch W.Machine – 20 years (I replaced the brushes once).I replaced the T.Dryer with a cheap Beko, the thinking is I’ll go for an integrated when the kitchen gets remodelled.
The W.Machine looks as though it’s going to need replacing, frequently fails to drain properly – I’ve taken it apart a number of times.I was in danger of falling in to the trap of The Great Washing Machine Swindle thinking I could get a W.Machine (Beko) for peanuts that lasts. I probably paid £350 for the Bosch all those years ago, the BofE calculator show £350 (1999) is equivalent to £595 (2018). So £600 for a long-lasting Miele is not that unreasonable. There’s a lot of good W.Machine advice on this site, I think I’ll treat the machine like an ‘investment’ and pay more to get more.

Participant” But cant say ive heard good things about beko reliability with inlaws calling the the skoda of the appliance world (i assume when skodas was rubbish lol) ” Skodas were never rubbish pre 1990 having come in the top 10 placing in rallies both in the RAC UK rally and numerous ones within the what is now the CIS. They were good cars pre 1990 as were Ladas and could wipe the floor with imperialist Western efforts. Long live pre 1990 Skodas and Soviet made cars: when The Wall came down, and deluded tratorious East German citizens bought second hand BMW and wretched Audis which were clapped out and mega expensive to repair ( having made East German money worthless overnight ) they soon found out that Wartburgs were good 2 stroke cars as were the earlier Saab versions; all were a triumph of Soviet based and revoluntionary Socialist thinking and it was all thrown away for want of a beefburger and a fizzy drink from the evil USA where there is little or no free health care for their citizens; they must have been crazy..

ParticipantHello all i thought id give update.
Dryer…..
We have bitten the bullet and got a new dryer. The old one is not drying clothes properly taking long time and today a smell of burning rubber and mrs convince there was smoke but i couldnt see that.
anyway ordered 9kg beko condenser dryer off AO.com for £280 inc delivery comes on friday.
Will never buy a hoover dryer again. 7 years old and had to have repair 6 times.I just hope the beko lasts 7 years but without need of repair.
Question is whether to insure it with D&G or not

ModeratorIf you are going to use it once or twice a time a week I would probably take a chance as the spares are relatively cheap, if over this I would probably insure it. Just remember not to overload it as IIRC you went for a 10kg washing machine.

ParticipantHello.
thanks Don for reply.
with a small family the dryer is on nearly every day.
The washing machine we have now is a 9kg indesit had it about 6 years and only needed one repair which was a new/refurbished drum on insurance in January this year. Its been a great washer. But next time it breaks down will consider buying a new one. Probably stick with 9kg because ive read bearings on 10kg+ not too good?April 16, 2020 at 12:48 pm #465588don

ParticipantHello.
just wondered if any of you might be able to help. Om sure this nrw dryer had reverse to prevent sheets rolling up into a ball. If it has its not working now. Its just spinning in same direction and bed sheets all tangled up.Any suggestions
ThanksMay 1, 2020 at 9:13 pm #465590electrofix
Moderatora lot of modern dryers dont reverse like they used to. most will only do the reverse direction for a short time. you will have to watch it for 10 mins or so to make sure and it may only reverse for 10 secs in that time
