I thought I should start researching my next move in case our washer dryer isn’t repairable (it broke over the weekend). Sadly separate machines isn’t possible for us space-wise and with young children, I appreciate the flexibility of being able to tumble dry some things.

I was leaning towards a Samsung as I’ve heard good things, but from reading the forum, it seems service and parts are harder.

We couldn’t afford a new Miele but could look at one from their outlet store. Would you do that or go for an AEG?

And how do I decide which one to get? I don’t need it to do anything fancy, but what’s the difference between AEG’s dualsense and okomix, for example? Or between the many Miele ones?!

We’re a family of five and I tend to wash most days. I’m not bothered about a huge drum as I don’t have drying space for too many clothes at once and I don’t use the dryer for everything. But saying that we generate enough washing that a reasonable drum is helpful, especially if duvets need to be thrown in! I’d really like something that is likely to last well. Our current John Lewis washer dryer has had seemingly endless problems since we bought it six years ago.

    Thanks!

Forum trade member Don is the man to answer some of your questions but one thing to note is that your John Lewis machine is made by Zanussi as is the AEG. 😉

Thanks iadom – maybe I don’t want an AEG either then?! Or maybe we were just unlucky.

Not really, a family of five and a mid range washer dryer is not an ideal combination.

Seperate machines are the way to go even if the dryer has to go in another room in the house. Washer dryers just don’t cut it for a family of five.

If you really cannot house a dryer then the Miele washer dryers are the best on the market by some distance. Buying the likes of AEG, Zanussi, Hotpoint etc will not last long at all.

Hmm… Thanks don – maybe I’m expecting too much and should revisit some space in another room or save our pennies. If we did manage to find space for separate machines, where would you start looking?

For the washer Bosch series 4 WAN machines or the Miele if budget allows as the tubs can be split if needed later on. For the dryer the Beko or Indesit vented as they are nice and simple, reliable and easy to repair. If condenser is required then something the the Indesit IDc8t3B equivalent of the vented one.
