ParticipantHi
Our Ariston Margherita 2000 washer dryer has finally died after 8 years service (which judging by what I have read on here was bloody lucky!). I think it’s the control board but it makes such a noise i expect the bearings are also on their way and that pumping money into it now would be a false economy. After reading “The Great Washing Machine Swindle” I am not surprised as it sounds much like the car industry – wishbone bush gone – that’ll be a whole new wishbone then sir!
I wish I had the money to buy a really good machine so I am erring towards a decent s/hand with good spares support.
Can anyone suggest anything? I can stretch to £600 max
thanks

I decided to remove the pump cover and after taking out a load of coins started to suspect that may have caused the problem. No joy, wouldn’t do any program even a spin. I’ve long suspected the control board (it will only run program 8 initially then if you’re quick you can run and program after 8 has run its course – my wife has put up with this for a year !)
Anyway I removed the control board connectors and reconnected and heh presto it’s working again !
Still it’s clearly on it’s last legs and given it’s lasted 8 years with ZERO repair costs (even the belts original although i’ve put it back on numerous times) I think it would make sense to look at alternatives still.September 17, 2010 at 5:09 pm #330519don

Hi
Is a washer dryer an absolute must? Best to have two seperate machines if you can 😉
The modern washer dryers just don`t do what they say on the tin I’m afraid. The nearest you will get is the Miele which comes in at over a grand, next best would be the Bosch range and the Zanussi’s, after that eveything else. This article from our buying guide on washer dryers is a well worthwhile read.
HTH 🙂

Unfortunately no room for both appliances and the Mrs insists we need the dryer. It turned out the brushes on the motor had worn out – I replaced them – restarted and unfortunately it seems one of the inlets to the drain pump was blocked and after a pop and spark in that general area it’s now completely dead ! If the drain pump motor failed would that stop the machine even switching on? (checked fuse this is ok)
thanks for the link re Washer dryers.

think it is time to stop with your current machine and just admit it is dead if it has gone pop it is almost a certaintity that the board will have been taken out with it

I agree. Found a Bosch Classixx WVF 2402 used locally at a good price – how are these in general? Spares availability?
