ParticipantAfter 17 years of good service it has been decided that it is time to replace our Bosch WFF2001 instead of replacing the pump (impeller broken off).
I am personally of the opinion that it might be worth replacing it and getting some more time out of the machine before something expensive does fail but the allure of faster spin, bigger capacity, time until finish display and improved efficiency has made my mum’s mind up.
I know this site is geared towards repairs but do you think it is daft considering replacing what has been a reliable machine when the repair required is so simple? Or is it worth it to get improved functionality – there is no denying that the bigger capacity and faster spin would be welcomed.
I have some concerns that a new machine today will not last like the WFF2001 has, without spending £800+. My mum wants to spend a maximum of £550.
The machine will do about 280 cycles a year.
So I have been looking at current Bosch machines, in particular the WAW32560GB which at the moment comes in at £434 when £200 cashback is factored in. They’ve changed their range naming since I last looked so can someone confirm that this would be a higher end model? Made in Germany? Sealed drum? Would it be a good buy?
We have also considered Samsung which look good but I don’t know about reliability?
I am open to any other suggestions including other brands in the price range up to £550, or beyond if you really think it would make a difference spending more.
Really appreciate any advice.

It does have a sealed drum, takes hours to wash but overall an OK machine I suppose. Costly to fix once the guarantee runs out and no easy DIY solutions either. Don’t even think of buying Samsung junk.

Thank you Martin. Is there another Bosch model you would recommend? I also looked at the one with intelligent dosing technology but it is a lot more expensive.

What’s the general condition of you’re present machine. If it was me I’d keep it going as long as possible

I would go for the Siemens WM14E462GB at £499 with free 5 year guarantee. A much better choice in the long run. 😉

Andy – if it was entirely my decision I would repair! I think it could go a while longer.
Martin – is this from a repairability/warranty viewpoint or is there more to it than that?

Exactly that, nothing more.
As for your old Bosch, I do concur with Andy, it is fixable and can be for years to come. But it’s best days are well behind. It is costly to run and no doubt shakes, rattles and rolls in the process. Might be time to ‘up grade?’
But, if your alias ‘Scotland’ is a clue then the cheapest option may be the ultimate conclusion. 😉

We’re not all cheapskates!
Looking at Siemens – can you tell me what you think of this one? looks similar to feature set of the Bosch I mentioned earlier:

Very nice! Way over your earlier quoted budget mind you, and similar in spec to the one I referred to earlier. Except yours features and induction motor and more complex electronics. Your choice after all. 😀

Yes it is! Just factoring in the extra warranty and repairability makes it very worthwhile considering the additional cost. Lots to consider but getting there..
Cheers
