new washing machine has an odd smell

had a hotpoint aquarius wd420 delivered today and after a couple of wash loads the machine is giving off a smell, a kind of faint ammonia or hot plastic.

Is this normal as the plastics and rubbers are new and will fade or is it a sign of something wrong.

Probably quite normal Nic.

Put it on a 90C wash with nothing in it and see how that works out.

If it continues, then it’s worth a call to Hotpoint customer service.

thanks for the reply dave.

I did as you said and the smell wasn’t as bad. So i did a wash on 60c and again no strong smell, then I put the dryer (on the high heat setting) and the smell came back.

Then i noticed steam venting out of the powder drawer.

So turned it off, waited for it to cool down and took the lid off. The smell is definately hot rubber which i guess is getting heated up by escaping steam.

Comet are going to have to returned to them cos there must be something wrong with it.

Just a thought, I do hope you have not got the hot and cold filling hoses on the wrong connections :con:
