ParticipantHi all
Our old Fagor seems to slowly fading, so I’m keen to use some John Lewis vouchers we’ve not yet spent on a new machine. We’ve got just shy of £400, but can add a few quid more if needed.
There are two of us, the missus works as a nursing lecturer and I play a lot of sport so there can be some dirty togs going through the machine. Other than that, nothing really heavy duty.
We’ve just had the kitchen done and opted for a non-integrated, so ideally the machine won’t look too ‘white-good-like’ – unless it’s easy to retrofit an integrated?
We have little hanging space so a good spin would be useful, there’s no opening (nor inclination to drill one) for a vent for a dryer, not sure if that precludes buying a washer-dryer but I’d assume it does.
Energy efficiency is important, although effectiveness of wash and machine reliability/serviceability are equally significant – no point saving energy if I have to wash things twice!
I was contemplating a Panasonic NA-147VB2WG http://www.johnlewis.com/230906951/Product.aspx but not sure of their reputation.
All suggestions gratefully received, just to reinforce the only restrictions are that it must be through John Lewis and budget is £400 or so.

Hi
Taking your criteria into consideration 😉 I have come up with my top three and added the Panasonic of which I am not that familiar with as they are new to the UK. I must admit that the Panasonic does read very well in the comparison link here.
There was a thread here from a little while ago re Panasonic machines which is well worth a read.
If it were me I`d go for either ther Bosch or the Siemens, both from the same stable and well established in the UK, good back up and a two year warranty as well.
HTH 🙂

Thanks Don, much obliged.
Interesting that JL have a scrappage deal when buying Siemens, I’m going to assume they’ll accept my old machine with a broken handle – if my machine was perfectly functional, why would I be buying another one?October 6, 2010 at 3:14 pm #332206don

It`s a Siemens backed promotion as per this link and a darned good one at that 😉

We went for the slightly more expensive Siemens machine, came in at £449 after trade-in discount which I thought worth the extra for a 5-year guarantee.
A bit bland, but perhaps better a plain workhorse than a fragile showpony!
