ParticipantHi,
A few of you know me from the problems I had with my Washing Machine.
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … sc&start=0
It is still chugging along. But I think the time is near when we would need a new one.
Since this was our first Indesit, we have been quite pleased with it, had no problems with it until now, and that’s after 9 years of constant use. So naturally I would look at Indesit first.
I would like to know is it better to buy a combination machine. i.e. Washing machine with a built in tumble dryer or have them separate?
If it is better to have a standalone washing machine, which would be the ideal one to buy, in terms of ease of repairing, longevity, reliability (I know no machine is reliable)..etc. I think you understand where I am coming from.
If a combination is better, then which one?
I understand budget is an issue, what I would like to know, is it worth spending alot of money on a washing machine, only to have it break down like after 3 years? Hence why we spent very little on our second washing machine (Indesit) as opposed to the £800 we bought our Hotpoint machine, which broke down after 3 years and kept on breaking down every other 6 months afterwards.
So, regarding budget, I would like value for money, I don’t mind spending £600, as long as it is well spent.
If you guys need further information, please let me know.
Thanks again
Jaspal.

To my knowledge there has never been a Hotpoint machine costing £800 or anything like that.
Indesit were known as cheap & cheerful but that was some years ago, now it is most definitely cheap & nasty. :rolls:
Why not just enter Indesit in the search box and sit back and read the countless pages of problems.
Along with one or two other brands they are about the worst machine on the market ATM.
You should ALWAYS, ALWAYS buy separate washer & dryer if at all possible.
The ISE 5 machine is a very well specified machine, way under your upper budget and includes a full five year parts and labour warranty.
£600 also puts you into high spec Bosch/Siemens/Neff territory or even low end Miele. All of them many miles better than any Indesit, but without the five year warranties.

Hello,
Thank for your email.
No you are right, I think that was the cost of the machine including the extended warrenty which my parents took out on it at that time.
Thanks for the links, I’ll be reading them later.
I like the idea of a 5 year warrenty. I’ll check out the ISE 5 machine.
My budget is actually around the £300 to £400 mark, just for a standalone Washing Machine. I don’t know how much a good Washer Dryer would cost, hence the £600 price tag.
Which other brands are good to give a miss?
Anymore views would be helpful.

ParticipantI have just read the links, very helpful.
I am leaning more towards a Bosch (or even a Zanussi).
My parents say “Get a cheap indesit”. Thats purely based on this last machine, which was quite cheap.
But I know that cheap doesn’t mean its going to last long.
We use the machine on average nearly everyday. At least 6 times a week (7 people to cater for).
I also like the Miele machines, but they cost alot, however I have seen one at John Lewis with 10 years garuntee, but going for £799.99. Thats too much for me currently.

They probably also told you there was a Father Christmas. 😀
Times change, I wouldn’t wish an Indesit machine on my worst enemy, on second thoughts if I really disliked them I would tell them to buy one. 😉

ParticipantLeaving the ISE machines to one side, lets believe they don’t exist.
What do members here think a low to mid ranged Bosch?
How easy are they to repair?
I have a week, before I have to make my mind up and buy whatever I think is good.

Bosch are as good as any in the mid range sector, all of them have a full two year warranty. The downside is that their lower priced machines now incorporate the dreaded ‘sealed outer drum’ along with most low to mid range machines. 😥 😥 😥
Parts are readily available but can be expensive.
The ISE 5 comes with a promise to supply spares at cost price after the FIVE year warranty period.
