ParticipantMorning all
Like many others I’m looking at what machine to get to replace the one that just died.
I see two main ways forwards to avoid the hassle and potentially high cost of continuous repair in the coming years, simply being too expensive to repair:
1) But Miele because it is less likely to go wrong, and is more easily serviced if it does;
2) Get a half-decent brand that still has some serviceability rather than super-sealed tub plus bearings, etc.Following pointers here to the Serie 4 Bosch WAN machines in relation to point 2 I had a look at Bosch’s parts diagrams. If I’m reading them correctly the rear tub of some / all of these has a non-replaceable bearing set – but at least the whole rear half-tub is available for ~£150. Cheapest model I can see with this is actually a £330 Serie 2 WAJ28008GB, but I can work up from that until I get the other features right.
So a Miele from £700 or so upwards, or a Bosch from £330 plus a mental note to assign £300 or so for a couple of new “super bearing kits” if we want to get 10-15 years of life out of it.
Have I got that about right? Or was there some other attraction of the WAN series that I missed?

no did not know of any others with the split tub till now. So you have taught me something
Also beware some Miele machines have a non split welded plastic tub. We can only hope the quality is better than some of the others
As for the Bosch bearings. You can buy the shaft seal, The bearings are nothing special so can be got at any bearing supplier. The only other thing you need is the tub seal as you have to break off lugs to get into the tub and the kit has screws to bolt it back together ( part no 12010820 at less than £5

ModeratorBe aware that the Miele WEA025 and the WCA030 have sealed tubs. While they are shown on Miele tech there is no part number attached to it so I have to assume it is not going to be cost effective.

WWG660 is current selection, having worked up the model range to get the preferred set of wash programmes.

ParticipantIt looks like we missed a 10-year warranty “special offer” that Miele ran for 1 year or so to Feb 2021(?). Is that the sort of thing they repeat fairly often? Might hold out for it if so.
