I have a New World Series Two slide under oven and grill, the model sticker is inside the grill and is partly burned off (duh!) but appears to be a WE6001N????? the question marks are where it is burnt! I know it is at least 7 years old as it was in the house when we moved in 7 years ago.

The timer has ‘gone blank’ – the internal light and grill ignition still work so I can tell it is getting power. I wouldn’t care but it seems to regulate the gas flow to the main oven, so no Christmas dinner for us unless I get it sorted.

I pulled it apart and it appears to have a ‘Turnright CA7007’ timer module (also has a sticker with ‘320690’ on it). I can hear a relay click in the module when I turn the power on/off.

Can I get another one of these from anywhere? Or am I likely to be throwing good money after bad and should I just buy a new oven?

    Any advice appreciated.

most electronic timers used in cookers disconnect the supply to
elements/solanoids when first powered up until they are set to the
right time and then set to manual.
if the relay in your timer is energising it points to the timer working
on power up, so if you disconnect the neutral supply to the timer you
may find that the cooker will work without the timer

Bear in mind that you are working on a gas appliance – you are NOT qualified. We would not recommend even altering the electrics!

Please get professional help – if you must have a go, cut electrical power before doing anything.

The programme unit is probably still available, Dave Conway may be able to advise in the morning.

Thanks for the advice, it works! Fantastic, if you are ever in the Croydon area I owe you a couple of beers (or a slice of turkey) as you have just saved me £££ and hassle.

Also thanks for the words of warning, Penguin, and for a great website 😀

    Woodfish,
I am pleased that your problem has been resolved.
However, please bear in mind that you HAVE just taken your life in your hands…..

For others reading this post please understand that UKWhitegoods does NOT recommend or condone that ANYONE attempt to repair gas appliances in ANY way WHATSOEVER. This should ALWAYS be left to a suitable CORGI registered service agent.

You have been warned and I for one will not be held responsible for any consequences resulting from the posters course of action.

There’s always an issue with safety on any appliance when you lift a screwdriver to it or remove any part to access the internals. None more so than with a gas appliance.

The advantage you have with gas is that if it is leaking you can often hear it and almost always smell it. Electricity is a silent killer and has to be treated with the utmost respect, in the past year alone I think we’ve reported two deaths directly related to someone DIYing a repair.

As a general rule of thumb with gas, if you have to break any seal on the appliance then it’s time for a CORGI approved repairer. I know that they’re hard to find and that’s a whole other issue with CORGI themselves, but the sentiment remains, we would say that then it was not a DIY job. Quite simply, it’s not worth the risk involved against the cost of a repair to be carried out proffesionally.

We tell you these things for your own and, your family’s, safety and not without just cause.

Re: New World Oven – Timer Dead

Hi, I’m currently experiencing similar problems. My timer module is also ‘dead’, but rather than making a ticking sound, I cannot hear anything at all, so my oven isn’t working either.
Everything else is working fine, so basically I’m wondering if the same can be done (which I’d get a gas-man for), or if I can get a new part. Failing this I guess I’m going to have to shell out for a new cooker.

If the model is WE6001N there were two timer versions.

The two button is now obsolete, the five button version appears to be still available at around £95 ex VAT.

Check the repairs@ link below for an engineer who can replace the timer if you have the five button version otherwise it’s new cooker time I’m afraid if the timer is at fault. It may of course not be the timer and again an engineer will be able confirm this 🙂

    Dave.
