ParticipantHi there, I have a broken W/M and would like some advise please.
The door lock has been playing up on the machine for a while( needed a firm push to start the program) and now it has completely given up.
When I have removed the locking switch I have noticed some burning around the PCB/Control unit and some damaged track.
The question is, is it a diy job to change the pcb and the locking switch (I am fairly competent) or is there more to it than just swapping the component parts?
Also could something else have caused the pcb to blow and that then blew the door switch?
Thanks in advance for any help.

A doorlock failure will often blow the main PCB.
Not that difficult to change but if you fit a new one it will have to be reconfigured.
There are companies around that will repair these such as QER or EMW.
A new door lock is essential, also need to check the door latch to make sure it is applying enough pressure to the doorlock. Quite common for the spring inside the door handle to break.
Whilst you are at it, tip the machine back against a wall and have a look at the wiring harness from the motor. This can often chafe against the lower concrete balance weight and damage the PCB, all with the mains plug removed of course. 😉

Thanks iodom,
Have just checked the wiring looms and all appears ok.
The door spring appears ok as well. When you say reconfigure, is this something that I can do or is it a call out job for and engineer? and would they want to pick up on something that I have already started.
A friend of mine is a bit of an electronics buff and if the blown track was repaired (if this is possible?) would the machine have to be ‘reconfigured’?
Sorry for all the questions but I don’t know weather to try to repair or cut my losses and buy new? Thanks again.

Fit the new door switch, get your mate to repair the burnt track and try it. Sometimes this does the trick but sometimes chips on the board are damaged when the track blows. If you need a replacement board you can get an exchange one, ready to go, from EMW Electronics.

Thanks Phidom, I will give that a go and see what happens.
Still not sure what the reconfigure means or does and can’t find any links on this site to it?????
Anyone?
cheers

You only need to configure the board if you fit a new PCB. Each module will fit several different models, the new boards have to be configured by means of pressing various buttons in sequence to configure.
The cost of a new board does make the refurbished option from the likes of EMW and QER fairly attractive and if your old board is repaired or you give them your model number it should come configured for your machine.

Hi Guys just got back from holiday and have received my new/reconditioned pcb from EMW but have can’t find my paperwork with the connections writen on!!!!
Could anyone advise me on which plugs go to which pins please? The only ones that I could get wrong are X9 X6 and X2 I am pretty sure the two red wires go to X2 but that leaves me with one plug with 2 BLACK wires and one with 1 Black and 1 Blue.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.
Thanks very much.

Give EMW a ring, they should be able to advise.
