ParticipantHi,
New to the forum, thanks in advance if anyone can help. I have a Gas oven that lights up fine, we used to then be able to adjust the flame immediately but all of a sudden the dial does nothing, if I wait a few minutes I can then turn from 8/9 where it has a full flame down to about 6 where the flame is almost gone,1-6 is the same tiny flame, above 6 and it basically goes full flame again.
I just tried leaving it on gas mark 3 for a while (10/15 minutes) and the flame starts to increase, so now I’m wondering if it was always supposed to work like this? I suppose the only real way to tell what if it is working is to get an oven proof thermostat.I tried googling around and could only find people having problems with no/little flame not where mine is where it seemingly all or very little and no control in between, the wife hates the oven so wants it replaced but thought I would try protect my wallet a little and see if maybe this is an obvious problem or not even a problem at all? Thanks

ModeratorForum rules do not allow us to advise on gas repairs I’m afraid.
That said yes a thermostat to measure the temperature is a good starting point. Fromthere if there is a problem then a Gassafe engineer would be required.

you have to remember its a thermostat so it regulates to the heat of the oven
from start
you light the oven and you have a low flame. the flame failure device warms up and allows full gas flow.the flame is then on full untill the temperature set is reached. at this point the gas supply to the burner is reduced and then controlled by the thermostat by raising or lowering flow to keep temp correct
To test it use an oven themometer and put it on a low setting and see what temp you get in the middle of the oven

ParticipantThanks both, sorry if I’m borderline breaking the rules Don, was hoping it was a generic enough question to get away with it but fully appreciate why you need to have those rules, I’ll try get out and get a thermometer today so I can judge this by temp rather than what the flame looks like, Xmas dinner panic is setting in 😀
