Hi, sorry for long/detailed post … I’d welcome any advice on remedying the following:

hoover nextra frost free freezer (hnu271 affl) in our garage (approx 4 years old)

Came home from holiday … to discover partial defrost… (ice cube tray in top compartment still frozen… but lower compartments starting to defrost).

Lots of Ice build up at back of middle compartment drawers (it always been prone to icing up (door seals good and not left open for any prolonged periods), I was going to defrost but with ill health I didn’t get round to it recently)…

Anyway, it wasn’t making any noise (fan or compressor)… green ON light was lit… red alarm was actually OFF but occasionally flickered on…

    on closer look …
    – it didn’t respond to buttons (on/off, or super)… eg not switching on/off by holding on/off down for 2 secs).

    – it didn’t respond to pressing on/off button quickly which should light up green led segments to show lower temp selected (and led temp display did not seem to be lit at all)
& after pressing on/off quickly to try to lower temp) red alarm light – flickering / flashing (every 5 sec)

At this stage I then unplugged it, Emptied fridge, and left it to manual defrost for 36 hours…

It restarted when plugged in…with fan working (blows air into compartments), and compressor came on… and started to cooled down … (from ambient temp of about 20c)… looking good…

but after about an hour although it was only down to about 5c it stopped (no alarm lit)

again … it didn’t respond to panel switches… (response to pressing switches as described above)…

but then later after I left it plugged in it started up again (red light now lit) and got down to about -5c… when it stopped again…
this time with the red alarm light flicking on every 5 second … but this time… it each time the red light flicked on it sounded like the fan was starting for a split second, then an click, then red light off & fan noise off, then 5 seconds later red light flicked on it sounded like the fan was starting for a split second, then an click, then red light off…

this repeated until I pulled the plug out as it obviously wasn’t right

    Thanks for any advice?

Re: nextra frost free freezer (hnu271 affl) no longer freezi

    BTW
I tried to uncover the evaporator area at the top of the freezer to inspect the fan etc..
However, I cannot get the cover off to expose it…
I’ve undone the 3 screws that attach the cover to the top (and removed the “shock freezing compartment”)…. I can prise down the from of the cover and peep inside to the end of the evaporator… but whenever I try to remove the cover, the whole lot seems to want to come with it!
I’ve removed the flimsy plastic panel on the inside back (covering the air channels… but cannot see anything else fixing the cover.

Has anyone any experience with this model who can advise on getting to the fans etc.

    thanks again
