Nextra8 HNF 7148 drain pump power problem ?

Hi all, am hoping someone can point me in the right direction with my dilema 🙂 ……., after checking the usual suspects when the machine wasn’t draining and showing error No3 on the panel i turned my attention to the pump itself and am at a loss to the cause of the problem ?….., the pump works fine on the bench, its spinning silent and free……, have had the multi-meter on the wiring and am showing power when the machine is put onto spin or drain yet the pump stays dormant 😕 . So, in a nutshell lol……, i have pump that works on the bench but not on the machine despite having voltage running to it ? lol. Would really appreciate any help that can be given 😀

Hi Jimmy: We don’t encourage people to carry out any Live testing on appliances. Just as a matter of interest, did you check the power to the pump with the pump connected or disconnected ?

Odds on a main pcb failure, water leaks onto pump are very common, this blows the main pcb.

Yep: Totally agree with you mate, just interested to find out which way it was tested. Probably with pump disconnected.

Thanks for the replys…., yes specialist01269, as mentioned twice in my post lol….., i tested the pump off the machine on the BENCH lol, although not a professional appliance engineer i have enough transferable experience/knowledge to cope with fault finding lol…., i just wanted to keep my post simple and stick to the known facts but will go into greater detail to clarify for you 😉 ….., removed the pump from the machine,examined it, tested it for continuity and found no problems so turned my attention to the wiring and found arcing damage to the rear of the connector (which could well be what you mentioned in your reply iadom, the motor does show signs of corrosion :wink:) so, checked the cables for continuity, both ok, examined the pcb and found no obvious signs of damage so checked for voltage, assuming that if there had been a short which had damaged the pcb in some way that wasn’t visible i would have no voltage in the cables…, was happy to find i did and put the problem down to the damaged connector, so, replaced the connector and re-connected the pump but, still no joy, so removed the pump again, double checked for continuity , then, as it still checked out i did a mains bench test and the pump ran !.

So, my quandary is this lol…, the motor runs fine when mains tested on the bench….., i have power running through the cables from the pcb to the pump….., so why does the pump not run when connected to the machine ? 😡

You need to check the pcb more closely, look at the small triacs in the middle of the board, 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain one of those will have blown.

It is due to rank bad design putting the drain pump directly under possible leak points without a water cover. Most of the time it will be leaking from the inlet hose from the dispenser into the drum. This is just slotted into the front of the drum and then fixed with a sealant that perishes over time, water leaks onto the pump and pops the pump triac on the pcb.

If you do go to the expense of a new pcb then you must sort the leak out as well.

Thanks iadom…., yes, just looked again and the 1st triac is blown……, thought it looked funny last night but as i was getting a voltage at the pump end of the wiring i assumed all was well ? is it not possible just to replace it ?….., or has this also caused damage to other components on the board ?

Actually I didn’t query whether you checked the pump off the machine, I asked whether you checked the voltage at the pump connector with the pump connected to it. If you just check the connector with no load then you won’t get a true reading.

No appology nescessary, we all mess up trying to read things at times, especially when tired. The reason I asked about the pump being connected is that when you test for power with no load on a circuit then you very often see ghost voltages, especially when using a DMM & believe me it can get confusing if you’ve never seen the problem before.

Thanks specialist, must have been a ghost voltage as you said :(,first time i’ve come across one……, its looks like iadom was right though looking at the pcb, but am at a loss to locate one ?, have had a quick browse online and seem to be able to buy every part except the pcb ?!….., which makes me think its a dreaded DPO (dealer part only) ?, or is it possible to just have the blown triac replaced or will the power surge have caused damage to other components ?

Google for EMW, I think they will repair these boards.

Thanks for that iadom….., they can repair the board for a tad under £50……., still like to know if i can get away with just replacing the triac though ? lol

Whatever route you choose you must make certain the leak is repaired. If it is the hose then it will need resealing to the hole in the front of the drum.
