I have a whirlpool American fridge freezer and the defrost function does not seem to be working.

Already had a technician out as I have an extended warranty and they have replaced the main control board twice.

As i don’t think it’s the board I have checked the heating element for continuity (90ohms), the thermostat fuse for open and closed circuit. When then thermostat is goes from cold to hot the circuit loses continuity, so that seems ok.

When the freezer reaches full temperature it does not seem to defrost and a clicking noise seems to come from the control board, like a stuck relay, this is why they keep replacing the main board.

    any help would be appreciated

It’d be more likely, I’d think, to be the bi metal stat or the heater that was faulty in that cabinet.

When you say bi metal stat or heater, does that mean the black thermostat fuse and the heater element?

if so I have checked the heater element for continuity and ohms. Got readings of 90ohms.

With the stat, this gives me continuity between orange and white wires when cold and when it is heated up you hear a click and the then there is no continuity, so I think it is ok.

It’s a best guess but, I’d not have assumed the board.
