ParticipantI’ve looked for a model number for this but I’m afraid I can’t find one :?. Nothing on the back and nothing when I open the door. All it says on the front is ‘Hoover Logic Reversing Dryer’ and it’s very old.
All was working ok but it now seems to have no heat whatsoever. Would this be the heater unit or thermostat? I’m happy to take it apart and do some diagnostic tests if necessary – just let me know what I need to do!
Thanks in advance!

Thermostat is still available – 09021486, as are the heater spirals – HV3430.
spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply these if required.
Access involves taking the drum out through the rear.
Power off first….

Thanks so much for the swift reply!
I’ll open it up to try and find out which bit needs replacing – thanks for the spare part ref’s, they’ll be invaluable. 🙂

Opened it up and done some checking.
Heating element seems ok from continuity check and gives a resistance of about 30 Ohms. There was lots of singed lint stuck around it though. If there is continuity in the element does that mean it should still work?
Can’t really tell what thermostat was like. Bi-metal strip seemed a bit rusty but was still ‘clicking’. Does anyone have any suggestions for testing I could do to confirm?
I put it back together to see if it would heat up after some of the cleaning I did but now it makes a horrible grinding sound when rotating . I think I must have knocked something out of line on the drum whilst I was removing it. Anyone had a similar experience?
Thankyou!

Thermostat at the front is just a switch, so you should have damn near 0 ohms in the closed (normal position) and O/C when it cycles. There was a dual level thermostat on the rear drum carrier IIRC – this should also be N/C, ie 0 ohms resistance.
The grinding noise will be that the front edge of the drum has missed the bearing pads at the bottom of the support ring. Back a bit, up a bit, forward a bit should sort it.

Hey there,
I know that his is an old post but I have the same problem with my HOOVER Logic Reversing Dryer (Premier). However, it does seem to heat up a little. the serial number is D669810100600 if that helps. Could it be the be the element event though it still heats up a bit? I’ve never dismantle these machines so not sure but happy to give it a go with a little guidance.
Thanks in advance!

Heater coil and/or the front TOC will be at fault on this old girl. Simple to dismantle from the rear and by removing the drum.

Can I still get these parts though? And what is the the front “TOC”? Sorry I have no knowledge about tumble dryers! Thanks a lot. Clem

Parts should be still available. TOC = Thermal Overload Cutout.

If the heat still coming on by 20-30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} could it still be the TOC? If the TOC is broken wouldn’t there be no heating at all? Thanks

Only by taking it apart and finding out will we ever know. How are you doing in that regard anyway?

Thanks for prompting me on this. We took it apart yesterday. The element is good for continuity. I’ve tested the thermostat for continuity regarding its wiring and that seems to be okay too. I also tested what we think is the condenser and its wiring continuity input and output is fine. Could the continuity of thermostat be okay yet the thermostat still not working properly?

I’ve just looked at the online video about testing thermostats and indeed it seems to be that simple. Any further ideas? I’m starting to have a really hard time stopping my wife from purchasing a new tumble dryer! 🙂
