ParticipantHello.
I have a Servis M9713 Washer Dryer that has become fairly problematic of late. It no longer seems to spin at all, and does not always pump away water. We had some sort of 3 year service contract on it which has since expired and I cannot currently afford an Engineer so I was looking at trying to repair it myself, and after a bit of research on here it looks like the module has probably failed.
Is this the most likley failure or have I missed something? I found this part “546060201 – Servis & Hygena Washing Machine (also Dryer) Module” on the spare parts sales section on this website and it looks about right, can anyone confirm this? How difficult will it be to replace the module?
I work in IT so i’m not afraid of wires but I have read about a couple of folks on here blowing modules whilst replacing them and I’d really rather not do that. I am fairly convinced myself that the module is at fault as it literally was working one day then not the next, and if I remember correctly it just stopped spinning in the middle of a cycle and refused to pump away the water. You can make it pump out at the start of a cycle (i.e. Cancel cycle, turn off machine, turn on machine, start new program) and it will clear the machine of water but it will not do this at all in the cycle itself, no matter how long you leave it.
Any advice thankfully recieved,
Nicholas Reid.P.s. Are these machines notoriously bad at drying clothes because mine has always been rubbish at it? My mum’s washing machine returns clothes with less water in them just after the fast spin has finished.
Thanks again.June 11, 2007 at 1:55 pm #216579petalpop

unplug machine!!!!!
take off old module
look for burnt tracks
it will have the part number on it
probably has blown as pcb`s on these machines are rubbish
while unplugged check on top of drum for a manually resetable t/stat
push the centre (brown or red) button
if it clicks it will heat again and dry better
REMEMBER washer/dryers are absolute rubbish at drying
you need to only put in half a load for dryinghope that helps

Cheers folks.
I’ll have a go at getting the old module out tommorow, see if I can find anything obviously fecked about it. I have checked the filter, it’s clear. To be totally fair to the machine, it always washes quite well anyway, and I can take some solace in the fact that I didn’t buy it, just inherited it. Will try to manually reset the thermostat too, when I say it’s bad at drying I’m talking about it often being unable to dry a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and some socks in an hour and a half at 70 degrees C. The clothes come out really hot, but soaking wet.
Thanks again.

The last point re. drying will be caused by the cold water valve not delivering a trickle feed to the condenser housing anymore. It all gets hot and steamy, but not dry.
Solve the big problem first, then worry about it.

Hello again.
Thanks to everybody who left advice for me, today I recieved a new module, plugged it in and voila! we now have spinning! Unfortunately, the machine now doesn’t seem to know when to stop filling up with water, it practically filled up completely at the start of the wash cycle, so I skipped past it to the spins to drain it. It does the same thing at rinses, just keeps pumping water in there until I get nervous about the door being forced open and push it forward to the spins.Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks again,

unplug….
top off…check wiring to pressure switch..its a round thing with either a plug into it or separate wires connected…it will also have a rubber pipe about half centimeter attached…this pipe goes towards the base of the w/d…if wiring looks ok detatch pipe and blow down it with some force as there may be a blockage from the tub which stops the incoming water displacing air up the pipe to activate the pressure switch. a long shot is to get the machine to fill and check that there is no water leaking from the pressure switch pipe, which of course will never displace enough air to activate the switch,

ParticipantAh hah, looks like I pulled the little pipe off without noticing when I was fitting the new module – hopefully that should sort it. I took the opportunity to disassemble the soapy powder tray and clean it, as it was pretty manky. Don’t know for sure if it’s fixed yet (I’ve only got a precision screwdriver for some reason, screws take ages!) but I’m pretty sure it will be.
😀
Thank you very much for that, it’s going to be pretty good to be able to do my washing at home for the first time in 2 months – I’ve been operating a three sets of clothes rotation policy to save dragging great bloody bags out to my parents house every week. Thanks again.

Yup, that’s her working again.
Couple of small issues (I’ve managed to shaft the waste water hose, slight clicking when the drum is rotating clockwise and the occasional “grumble” from the water pump (when clearing the water it sometimes makes a noise similar to an upright hoover when you run over something that sticks in the brushes, lasts about a second but still seems to work fine – I figure something has made it past the filter and into the pump, and will either clear or break the pump, I’ll deal with that if it happens)) but otherwise is working pretty well, just finished a mid sized load of tea towels and socks – even dried them pretty well after I followed the advice about resetting the thermostat. So all is now well.
Thanks again to everyone who has helped me on here, money’s been tight and I certainly couldn’t have got this fixed by an engineer for the £24.99 I spent on a new module. Should anyone ever require advice about either computers or subaru legacy’s (about the only things I’m qualified to give advice on – apart from 20th century Russian and Soviet history) don’t hesitate to drop me a message.
Thanks again,

thanks for update 😀
hope all goes well, change the pump sooner rather than later, when funds allow.
