Hi, I have a problem with a noisy Bosch WFF1201 Washing machine. Problems started a couple of months ago, with the program stopping before the last spin cycle, just seemed to move past number 4 and all the clothes came out wet ( not sure whether Son had been pressing the rinse hold and messing about ). Then this weekend it started making a grinding noise but not when the drum was moving, it sounded like it was coming from the pump, so I have dropped the panel off the bottom and removed the front of the pump but cannot find anything in the pump. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

With the machine off, check for lateral motion on the impellor. If you can move it from side to side, the pump is worn and must be replaced.

    This is worth a read:

And this is the pump you may need:

    Power off, please.

Hi, my Bosch WFF1201 is nine years old, regularly (10 times a week) used and has developed what appears to be a similar problem over last 3 months. Intermittent failure to ‘drain’ and reluctance to progress past ‘4’ on dial. It has developed a loud ‘machine gun’ rattling droning vibrating noise during the cycle but it’s not always there(?). Filter is cleaned and clear (wee bit sand…tiny amount, honest, that’s all).
Could this be the same as your problem requiring the £29.95 + £3.45 dely pump? Will the pump sort all noises as well?
    Thanks.

Test the impellor lateral movement as P45 says, if there is some side to side slack felt, then a new pump will sort it out. Bosch machines are quiet runners and worth looking after. 😉

Power off before ANY inspection. :plug:

The ‘machine gun’ rattling sounds like a foreign object in the pump….you’d be surprised how much noise a 5pence piece in your pump will make !!! They sometimes have a habit of ‘popping’ in and out of the drain hose into the pump before being flicked back up . The way i sometimes deal withit is to wait till it makes the noise again ,then stop the appliance , drain manually and the check the pump/impellor – Always power off though when doing this

Many thanks to all who helped me here. New pump has been fitted and there have been two successful and quiet washes since (and a happy wife). Old pump impellor was movable from side to side as suggested.
I was on the verge of scrapping it as i thought the old Bosch was giving up (9 years and estimated 1800 washes!).
    Glad i found this website!

One week on and another Bosch development 😳 . New pump is fitted and still working BUT the motor (that causes drum to spin etc.) has now started ‘crackling’ and small sparks can be seen coming from the centre spindle (if you lie flat and look through base space :rolls: ). Also ‘electrical burning smell’ now coming from it (it’s running as we ‘speak’). Is it a “simple” matter of obtaining and replacing the motor brushes (if it has any)?
    Many thanks again,
    Tomba

    These brushes here?.

Back off, motor out, big fight with the springs to fit.

Stop using the machine until you’ve fitted the new ones – you risk cooking the motor.

    Power off, of course.

Excellent! Many thanks too!!! Remeber fitting new brushes some years ago to a strimmer and some other motor but no doubt this will be pork by comparison…have read some other comments on other models (e.g. 2 hours….heavy motor, place protection on floor…don’t work underneath, take machine right out etc.).
Hopefully this will be my last Bosch W/M repair for some time.
Many thanks again Penguin45….the wash did go ok apart from a little ‘smell’….cooking a wee bit ( 😳 💡 ).
Will let you know how it goes next week!
    Cheers!

😀 Got the brushes and fitted them 😡 …first one, easily seen on right hand side..was a doddle (what’s all the fuss about i thought! :rolls: ) Then there was the ‘unseen’ one…left hand side from rear….aaargghhh! Spent ages on this…eventually had to cut a bit off the carbon …nope…then had to cut 1cm off the spring….2 hours in and out with the spade connector i did what you do not suggest (and neither do i !) i tilted it at an angle and worked through the gap so i could see what/where it was going in…aha! 😮 it finally STAYED in the slot. Bonus was that the machine did not fall on my neck (it was well wedged and wouldn’t do so but i was a bit daft i know….desperation! Smooth running Bosch now after the replacement fof brushes (and the pump earlier),
    Many thanks again …GREAT SITE!!!

An interesting approach you had there tomba, I’m curious as to how exactly you fitted the brushes in your strimmer? 😕

Sorry, Penguin45…..power ‘off’, back ‘off’….motor… 💡 thought it was a bummer to remove 2nd big bolt so i’d avoid the ‘dropping on floor…lifting up again’ hassle! in situ i’m afraid!

    I didn’t therefore 😳
