Dryer has started making a rattly noise which disappears when direction reverses – have taken side off and suspect pulley? How hard to fix and what will happen if it isn’t fixed?

By pulley I guess you refer to the Jockey Pulley (belt tensioner)?? They do wear and are fairly easy to replace (Part No X245677 – available by emailing spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk ). 🙂

However, these machines and the various noises they make, can come from worn front drum bearing pads? Motor bearings clapped? Collapsed rear bearing bush?….all manner of places and worth a cautionary word at least. 😉

Ok – when rotating in one direction the belt settles on the left hand side of the pulley wheel and is quiet – when rotating the other way it settles on the right hand side and rattles – noise definitely coming from that area. It has been very heavily used over the last 4.5 years so wouldn’t be surprised at anything wearing out!

New Jockey Pulley should cure it then probably? I wonder what the state of the belt is like by now though? I bet that is a bit rough? Belt changing is not a job to consider as it involves a major dismantling by the way. 😉

Best option is click on the link below for a local expert to take a look 🙂

The belt looks ok to me but then I’m no expert – I’ll try the jockey pulleys first – thanks for your help
