ParticipantI have on the face of it a fully functioning Leibherr 3376-20e, 9987668-05 tall freezer that has started making loud grumbling noises. The noise is intermittent (every few minutes)and always stops when I open the door, so I suspect it is to do with a faulty no-frost fan which seems to be housed in a six inch unit at the very top of the freezer, as that is where the noise appears to be coming from.
I have tried turning the freezer off for 24 hours in case the fan has simply got iced up, but no joy. My question is how do I remove this box to inspect the fan properly,(assuming there is one of course, to find out if that is the problem/identify fan model/part number etc, as there doesn’t appear to be any obvious screws holding this box in.November 15, 2013 at 9:53 pm #404561admin

Hi Bryan, thanks for feedback. it is a freezer only model, ie one door. As mentioned, I have tried that, but maybe 48hours would have been better…?? The freezer is turned off again as of last night, so will give feedback on Monday.
I would however still like to know how to remove the main box to get a look at the fan in case this doesn’t work.November 18, 2013 at 5:21 pm #404563alcantara

left freezer off for 60hrs turned on, still noisy, so guess it is fan bearings and not ice build up. Still cant see how to remove box at top of freezer to inspect/replace fan…? seems this full width box about six inched deep, has a large plastic sprung clip on either side of it, but they are difficult to get to, plus I don’t know if that is the correct removal method. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello mike, I don’t have access to tech info just now but the white box does swing down to allow access to the evaporator and all the associated components.
If it’s the older model, then you heed to take out the pegs holding the clips in place, to allow the clips to be pulled out from the side wall of the appliance.
This in turn, allows the box to be pulled away from the back and lowered for access, but not before you’ve been round the back and loosened cables and also the drain hose.
If it’s the later and much more accessible unit, then there are covers on the bottom of the evaporator unit that just pull off allowing it to drop down much more easily.November 18, 2013 at 11:19 pm #404565alcantara

Ok, sounds like I may have the older model… there appears to be a very small peg on each side, on the underside of the box near the clips, I will have a look tomorrow to see how they come out.
Thanks very much for your input, much appreciated.

Ok. Push the middle of each peg up inside. This will allow removal of the peg and you’re on your way.
Don’t forget to go round the back and loosen cables and drain hose though.November 20, 2013 at 11:38 am #404567alcantara

Not sure I’m doing the right thing. I removed the large plastic clip on the rear of the freezer that clamps down the cables, but what I thought were pegs sticking out on the underside, near the front of the box by each clip, turned out to be small removable white plastic bungs. Once removed, I tried sticking a small screw driver in each hole to see if I could release the clips on the side of the box, but not sure what to do…….as the clips seem to be well installed on the box. Any advice ?

Hi Managed to push in clips and lower box…….what a bad design that is, seems there was polystyrene from preventing the clips being pushed in easily … I will now try and find the fan..

to get into this box properly, ie to remove it to find the fan, I guess you have to somehow disconnect the copper pipe from the evaporator ? that runs round the top of the now exposed box sitting on polystyrene, through a hole in the back of the freezer then down the outside of the freezer to the compressor……I cant see how this can be easily done as the pipe appears to be fully connected all the way…..perhaps I have taken on too much….

It does sound like you have taken on too much to be honest. It’s fairly easy to get the evaporator down – if you know how.
For goodness sake, don’t disconnect any pipe at all!
You have to get the polystyrene cover off to allow access to the evaporator and all it’s components.
Maybe time to put it away and call an engineer?November 20, 2013 at 6:33 pm #404571alcantara
ParticipantRe: noisy Leibherr tall no frost freezer
Yes lowered box but only a small amount as didn’t want to bend evaporator copper pipe. Its a shame, I’ve fixed many a device in the past but taking this apart seems way over complicated for such an uncomplicated bit of kit. I guess they just don’t want people fixing their own stuff. Anyway happy to get an engineer if I can find one that knows Leibherr which appears after making a few calls, not many do, not near Brighton anyway.
Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.

You’re more than welcome for any help we may have been.
You have the model in between the ‘old’ one and the current model. I have the same one at home.
The latest ones are really easy to get into!
Have you used the engineer search facility on this site?
If you get no joy there, then I’d give liebherr a call and ask them for an approved engineer in your area. 08444 122 655.November 21, 2013 at 10:06 am #404573alcantara
ParticipantRe: noisy Leibherr tall no frost freezer
yes, called Liebherr they gave me one company to call but the girl didn’t seem that helpful, no engineers to discuss issue with. Ill try the search facility first.
Thanks again for your help.November 21, 2013 at 10:21 am #404574alcantara

no Liebherr engineers on site in the south east, so back to calling Liebherr.
