I have a Zanussi TD524 tumble dryer that’s started to get noisy recently but is still working. It makes a rhythmic noise at one point in each drum rotation that’s also accompanied by some vibration. The fan appears to be working normally as warm air is blowing out the vent hose. I initially thought it might be bearing related, but when it switches to reverse action the noise isn’t present.

I realise this is a fairly vague description of the problem, but I didn’t want to start dismantling it without at least some ideas as to what the fault may be. It’s at least 12 years old so if the diagnosis isn’t good at least I can start saving for a replacement before it goes completely.

    Any ideas gratefully appreciated

Well it’s old, it will need a complete strip-down to clear the fluff build-up inside. I guess the noise will be the Jockey (tension) pulley worn out (most usually?) and/or the rear bearing hub?

We in the trade usually do these checks as a matter of course and part of a routine service call so all is not lost if you wish to take that route? (see link below 😉 )

Beyond that you will have to get your tools out and suss out the department of trouble bearing in mind what info you have so far…All the best! 🙂
