ParticipantWe have anPolar Refrigeration counter freezer which uses an Ektron rek33 controller recently it as been fluctuating high temp then returning nac to -17 but again can return back to high temp s lose stock. We looked at the Manuel and they say perhaps poor air flow is the problem and instructs to press the de frost button for 5 seconds then it will go into defrost and we will see a light showing this .But when we press this button no light appears and unit does not get any cooler any ideas what could cause this many thanks

I would suggest you have a faulty temperature sensor or controller as the appliance is able to reach -17C. However, has the unit got a fast-freeze switch? If so put it into fast freeze and tell me if it gets colder than the -17

Thanks for your quick response no it does not have a fast freeze option on it but you can set temp between -18 to -24 we have set it above that at -22 and it as reached that temp .But it seems to run okay for a few days then temp goes up and down and jumps all the way to -5 where it seems to stick. Then f we put in a temperature gauge inside fridge it does read the same as the digital display -5.

I was curious about that is their same concept in the fridge and air conditioner to cool the temperature. we recently visit an air conditioner shop there we get a product which has the same functionality.

This is a commercial refrigeration unit, not a domestic freezer.
So only an Engineer with commercial expertise can offer advise, and as one advise you to get another to look at it.May 24, 2018 at 3:25 am #420834LeRayParateur

It looks like the system tends to overheat. Maybe the condenser coils need cleaning or the condenser fan doesn’t run well. You shall make sure that the coils are clean and the fan runs at a constant speed without vibration.
Of course, if the condenser gets too hot, evaporator pressure and temperature increase so the unit can’t cool as efficiently. Also, in some cases, the varnish on the compressor electrical wirings doesn’t insulate them well causing small shorts, so there’s increased current consumption and the compressor overheats.
I have also seen some units getting their evaporator coil so full of ice and frost that air can’t even pass through. Even if the ice is cold, it acts as insulation around the coil so it can harm cooling capacity.
One quick way to know if there is a defrost problem is to unplug the unit and leave the door open for some time… if there’s lot of water in it or under it, it probably comes from the frost melting.
Depending on the model, the defrost cycle (at least for residential models) usually occurs every 6 to 14 hours of compressor run time.
