hi guys if you go to a machine and it is not spinning after you check for blockages brushes pump ect do any of you ever short out the triac on the board to see if the motor will run and if the triac is not marked how do you know where to short it out or put it another way is it some thing that should be done i know the first problum is safety as you are dealing with a live circuit just like to hear your views thanks fasetester 🙂

I used to like the old Hoover, Creda and Whirlpool modules where you could link the separate live and neutral terminals, take the belt off and find out it was the module that was causing the fault. You could only run the motor for a second or so at full pelt or as I found out after running one for to long they tend to go up in smoke .

    Re: not spinning

There used to be a test procudure printed in the Hotpoint service manuals on the old 95 series machines.

It involved shorting out the triac and using an analogue meter across the live and neutral on the plug top.

The meter would fluctuate when the motor was turned as long as the arm and field wiring was in tact. It didn’t test the tacho and obviously won’t work on the later machines with a thermal door lock.
