    Hello and thank you.
I have an OCEAN UPRIGHT FROST FREE FREEZER PUP0780B.
Water leaked from the roof onto the top and then in to the pcb control unit
which rendered it dead, i have replaced the pcb unit with a new one making carefull note of the conections !! .
At first it did not work so thinking there may be something else damaged
i removed the cover surrounding the evaporator unit inside and tested the
thermistor on the left and side which does change when placed in hot water. i am unable to test the divice linked in line with the heater element or the element itself (is this a thermal fuse) having checked what i could i pluged it back in and after about two minutes its come on and seems to be working ok so far. However although there is only a couple of jugs of water inside which freeze fine it seems a long time before the compressor comes on when the door is left open (is this an unfare test) although the unit reaches frozen again ok .
So is this normal and how much frost should i see in the evaporator fins
and how often should they defrost completly if at all.
ANY TECHNICAL HELP ON TESTING OR ANYTHING TO GIVE ME A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW IT WORKS WOULD BE MOST WELCOME
ps SORRY TO HAVE GONE ON A BIT .
    Thank you for reading .

Re: OCEAN FREEZER TECHNICAL HELP PLEASE

    Hi

There is a time delay when this unit is first switched on. Sometimes dependent on the rrom programming. Some will carry out a defrost function before restarting, some will just have a 2-10 min time delay to save the compressor overloading.

The compressor will only come on once the thermister senses the temperature drop, so the scenario that you are describing is normal.

Re: OCEAN FREEZER TECHNICAL HELP please

    HI Bryan
Its very good of you to take the time to reply with advice thank you.
I had wondered about the time delay when pluged in but having read the instruction manual for a hotpoint freezer which explained this i feel a bit relieved
At the moment its working fine although when the door is left open it does not start up for some time is that because its empty except for two jugs of water (frozen) ? and looking through the grill at the top how much ice or frost if any is normal on the fins (its very hard to get the cover out as this supports the whole assembly) so its difficult to see if the defrost part is working , the drain vent tube makes a gurgling noise when the door is shut so that may be a good sign (the pipe was detached from the top on the back before ) it may be that i am worrying to much and its working fine the trouble is with these things is you dont take any notice of when they are working !! but i have to say i have learnt a lot already from this club/site.
any further reasurance or advice would be most welcome.

    Thanks
    Regards Dave
