Recently the freezer has stopped working. We have had this before – it is usually due to ice build up – we switch it off for 2 to 3 days and let it thaw out, using a towel on the floor to mop up the water. However, this tIme there was no water. So, having read some other submissions on this web site I un-popped the 8 nylon inline pop rivets on the inside rear of the freezer section to see if the fan was operatiing. It was. So I switched the fridge back on with the pop riveted panel loosely in place but the feezer only went down to -4deg C and the bottom of the fridge back wall got very warm. I tried this a few more times and once it got down to -10 deg C.However, it will not hold the low temp and will not get down to -18 deg C.
The fan start doesn’t seem to respond to the thermostat – it seems to switch on when it wants but will not pull the freeezer temp down and the fridge dept is warm. Can anyone tell me what’s wrong and if its reparable?

    Hi

There was a common problem where the suction line was touching the condenser which then corroded and caused a refrigerant loss, see if you have corrosion on the condenser.
