ocean vn9ou frost free freezer

I have an ocean premier upright frost free freezer VN9OU.It will only work when fast freeze is turned on and dial turned to full on position.Any ideas what is wrong,and how easy is it to repair.

Sounds like a thermostat related issue but, to be honest, whether it’s worth spending any money on is open to debate as it must be a fair age now.
