    Hi everyone!!
Just a thought – would it be a good idea to put a post in the Whitegoods Trade Association forum to tell the membership what Ady and Ken are looking to achieve at the OFT on the 14th? Or is it best left until the result is known?
I think it is the next important step and will make interesting reading of the (before) aims and the resulting achievements (afterwards).
    Keeps us relevant! . 😉

    What say you?

    Steve.

I’d say, let’s see what shakes out and we have to report.

Asides from which it’ll give us something to talk about at Sibson. 😉

    Hi Steve,

I agree with Ken, lets do the work nice and quietly then make a nice big fuss over it as and when we have acheived something 😀

    Hi Steve,

To be honest Ken, started the ball rollin’ over a year ago now with the OFT.
We were hoping to get the ball rolling over six months ago, when Ken and I had a meeting with them down in London but they could’nt quite get their heads round the fact that we were not a traditional type of trade association at that time.
So to make life simpler for them, we asked you guy’s to help us, by creating the WTA. It was by no means the only reason but it was an important one.

At the initial meeting they explained that a typical application process normally took at least eighteen months and more realistically two years.

I sent the application guidance notes to Ade as soon as he volunteered for the job that’s why you have hardly heard a peep out of the guy since.
He has a mamouth task ahead of him. Working with Govt. Departments is a very slow laborious and ardious process.

I know that with all our help Ade will pull it off cos he’s a tenacious, stubbon sod and will keep peckin’ away at it till it’s sorted.

Only thing is, progress can seem very slow to guy’s who think that all you have to do is fill out a form and it’s done. Like Ade said let’s all rejoyce when it’s done and dusted.

    Re: OFT visit.

    Hi Guys,

Just a quick update for ya’ll, after a small sightseeing tour in a load of traffic jams, the meeting went well, basically, it was a ‘lets meet and get to know eachother’ type of session. Kinda like a first date!! Our case worker, Atonya seems very nice and she and her collegue seemed to show a positive interest in our application.

We were basically given the bigger picture today. Timescales, expected requirements etc. It seems that our COP does outline the primary expectations, but a lot more work is required before we can submit a pre-application. In the next few weeks, I will be studying other trade associations’ COP’s and I will start to compose our own. Timescale wise, as previously mentioned is correct, 2-3yrs from application to approval, so we have to be patient with this one and let time take its course.

Both Ken and I came away from the meeting confident that we can produce a code that will meet the OFT’s standards. Things may go quiet on this subject for a while now, but be rest assured…… The ball is rolling 😀

    Adrian
