ModeratorSo you think you know washing machines? Someone post the answer to this and I will buy you a drink on Friday. I discovered the answer but only after a lot of head scratching.
Hotpoint BWM12 intergrated washing machine, an Indesit produced model and very very ugly, just as well it is covered up by an outer door. The problem being noisy and the inner drum occasionaly jamming + previously not rinsing or spinning properly. I found the eco ball that should be in the sump hose, wedged between the inner drum and the tub, hence the noise etc. The sump hose was intact and the rubber lip that retains the ball was undamaged, oh, and nobody had removed it previous to my visit. The question is: how did it get there?

Somebody, for some reason connected the drain hose to the water supply (maybe to try and clear a blockage ?) The back pressure was enough to force the ball past the retaining lip and into the tub. 😀
Well it sounds plausible ! 😮
Does’nt it? 😯
Wotcha mean ‘what a load of cr*p’ 😥

Shot in the dark.
Sink was blocked, customer used a plunger to force out the blockage, waste hose connected to drain stub under sink, blockage stronger than the eco ball system, etc. etc.
I didn’t want the drink in any case.

KeymasterAnother shot inthe dark…
Something in the pump, caused it to jam and reverse which whapped the ball upwards as it flew free?

The waste was connected to the same downpipe as a loo perhaps ?
Someone pulled the flush and the pressure “whooshed” it up there.
That doesn’t bear thinking about too much actually :eeek: 😆

C’mon Dave – lets think about this!
A turd would never get through the drain hose 🙄
mmmmmmh! – it might have been a very thin one I suppose…………
It would have to be a very fast turd too……… reminds me of a little ditty I used to know.
The night was dark, the sky was too,
As down the street the s**t wagon flew,
It hit a bump a scream was heard,
A man was hit by a flying turd!I love poetry.
Andy 🙂

i think I need to end this now as i am already now planning to skip breakfast after that last post. Infact, you were all surprisingly close, well done to all of you. But Alex was the closest. it was a blocked sink cleared by one of those pnumatic cannister power surge drain cleaners! Of course, this was never mentioned to me at the time hence the head scratching and accusations of a bodge by A.N. other.

I had the same thing last year with one of these – when I tipped the machine back, the polystyrene transit block for the motor was still under the machine – a particularly bouncy load caused it to crush the sump hose and popped the ball into the drum.

This could be good news for me as I do a lot of small plumbing jobs as well as appliance repaires, And I have a “Pango” the compressed air gun for unblocking drains so with a bit of extra umph with the pango might get a return call to remove the eco ball from the drum’
Iam only Joking (I Think)
