After years of reliable service our AEG has stopped heating the water on any setting. During main cycle the control does not progress presumably because the required temperature has not been reached.
An obvious candidate is the element but should other components be considered first.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Element failure is a good bet at this age – possibly caused by problems with the water level control system becoming sludged. Burnt/broken wiring is another possibility, the thermostat and the timer control system itself may be causing problems. Technically, this is a complex (although excellent quality) appliance, well worth having investigated.

If you’re not sure how to investigate the possibilities, please click the repairs@ link for an engineer in your area. If you are going to proceed, please ensure that the plug is pulled at all times.

    Hi

Element needed replacement and machine now works fine. With the amount of limescale it was amazing that it had lasted as long as it did.
Thanks for the helpful advice and swift delivery on the part.
Great site and keep up the good work.

    Tony
