ParticipantBeen to this today. Had forgotten just how difficult the old AEG’s could be. It looks no more than five years old. Styling very similar to the modern ones.
But some parts obsolete and what’s not obsolete is not cheap. Therefore this isn’t a serious enquiry because I don’t really want to go back to this. But I told customer about UKW and she asked if I would post a query and I said I would.
Anyway, reported fault was: Would start OK on 40 mins quick wash then display revert to 125 mins. Now will not start at all.
Went along thinking I’d find a low insulation fault but machine meggered at 500M or thereabouts.
Select programme (any programme) and correct expected time appears in display. (e.g. 11 mins for spin.) Start/pause light flashes, door light is solid green (meaning not engaged) and would be expected to go out on pressing start. But when start pressed, nothing happens. I thought door lock. Accessed lock to find a weird thing with seven terminals (three connectors) Opened it up to find a double core solenoid and two switches.:? Solenoids readings believable and switches clean like new. Also tried bridging switches, to no avail.
Bit of a struggle to get fascia board out. No burns on that; again looked pristine. Selector switch looks fine and anyway display is changing correctly so wouldn’t think problem was there. Took back off and found one of those nightmare boards in base. Less easily released and accessed than an Indesit WD12 due to the plethora of ribbon cables and what not going in at various angles and each so firmly connected it has to be wrenched off. Again, no burns, board looks like new. So I took my call out charge and said it was probably not worth persuing due to expense of parts and approaching obsolescence.
Was I wrong?
As I made my weary way home I wondered if I should have checked the integrity of the start/pause tactile switch. But would that have led to the odd display time changes reported?
Well, I hope no-one is going to answer this, because I really don’t want to re-visit this nightmare but I’m just asking on behalf of this very well-heeled (could easily afford a Miele to replace it) but pleasant enough customer, to whom I have promised that I would post a query.
Mike.

Motor or pump out of circuit will stop it starting. There is a (*I think*) a motor circuit fuse on the bottom pcb.

I’ll give ’em a ring tomorrow in the hope they’ve already bought a Miele. 😆
