ParticipantOld but gold dishwasher from c.1987..was working perfectly until last week (only part I ever had to buy was a new door-latch handle 10 years ago!)
Recently the machine stopped mid cycle..water was not entering the machine. I took the machine out of its location..checked inlet hose filter (it wasn’t full of bits) and put it back..it worked ok initially..water coming into machine ok. It did a load of dishes but only washed them (perfectly) ..wife (who operates said machine) says it stopped around the rinse part of the cycle..so it seems it washed but not rinsed /dried.
I took off the door panel & and toe plate..there was about 5mm of water in the bottom “tray” which looked like it had be accumulating for a while. I dried it up. I ran the machine on the normal wash cycle and every so often clean water was seen coming down into the bottom tray on LH side. I took the machine out of its space again and removed the left side panel exposing the large pressure controller/water inlet component. I ran the machine on the normal wash cycle..and after a few minutes saw water exiting an open hole (2 actually opposite each other in this molding..clearly designed to be that way) to the right of the float switch in the controller (see attached photo)..I sat there watching for the whole cycle and it did this 3 or 4 more times mainly towards the end of the cycle (the rinsing part of the cycle?). Once or twice I thought it would happen again but the water level stopped just a 3 or 4 mm below the “escape/overflow” holes which can be see n in the attached photo.
The red microswitch switch seemed to be working ok physically and electrically and I took out the white float mechanism from the chamber and cleaned it..it wasn’t really dirty. I haven’t run it since as have been busy with other stuff.
Can anyone shed any light on what is happening here and why? What are those 2 “holes” designed to do?
Side note..whatever the holes are designed to do it seems a bit dangerous to allow water to egress the pressure controller just to dribble where it wants..near live wiring i.e.why not some type of drain tube from a hole straight to the floor of the bottom tray?thanks for reading..hope someone can help me get this sorted.

Moderatorcheck the hose from the side unit to the sump
if its blocked the water flows in faster than out and overflows

ParticipantFound the relevant 20mm hole in the sump/tub (which faces the back right) and managed to get a long handled thin bottle brush right up the pipe to the connector to the pressure controller (spring clip on the black pipe). Got a load of crud out of it and after several induced rinse cycles it now seems to have got rid of a number of loose black bits of crud that were freed up in the process but I couldn’t collect manually.
So without having to detach the black pipe from the pressure controller the outflow is back to normal and now the machine works fine again with no overflow through the holes provided.
Thank you so much for your advice Dave…happy wife=happy life..now watching the football with a beer. -
