    Took a quick look at this antique today, the drum turns for about 20 seconds, then stops and stutters as if trying to turn. Will go if spin by hand after a few turns then stops again.

    The belt looks a bit old and cracked but ok I think.
    The motor has no start capacitor.

    I wonder if the motor may be shot.

    any advice as cant remember ever looking at one of these.

    There is a cut-out in those motors and they fail. The old twin tub used the same coil but without the cut-out. Check that the motor is clean and oil its bearings. Also check the front drum bearings to make sure the drum is free to turn. If its still cutting out then the motor is faulty.

    Thanks Dave, motors long obsolete so new machine time.
