That would include one member giving ‘chapter & verse’ on how to replaced Zanussi Motor Brushes and another advising taking the heater out and go fish around inside I suppose. 🙄
Recent observations I have made so far (apart from the overwhelming lethargy of members in polling their votes) is that those that are content at the present situation on advising the public are those that are stacked out with work. And those that oppose such advice are most likely to be the ones scratching around for work.
Hardly a scientific conclusion I realise but very near the mark nonetheless. But reading post after post after post in the public forums I am very concerned at the advice being given at the expense of this business.
And I’m sorry but IMHO I do not accept that the balance is correct, that the people that come on this site are determined to fix it themselves whatever and or that it does our industry good.

KeymasterYeah Martin there’s a few, but should we discourage them posting? I think not.
It has always been and will always be my position that education is far superior to edicts or rules. we show them the way and we’ve seen a great many change their ways after a short period of time.
The worst ones that made me really wince were those placed by “anonomous” in response to a question in the public forums, an errant engineer finds the forums and decides to show how clever he is. That’s now stopped with the change to the registration process and so we have a degree of more control. At least when we know who it is we can PM them or email them and ask that they chill out a bit.
This is a recurring theme and, as usual it’ll die out for a while and come back time and again, simply because there are so many definitions of how far we should go or how much info should be handed out. Added to which new members can’t or don’t read back the stickies or the threads that relate to the subject.
I can’t recall reading the Zanussi one but the other was a “take out the heater, but it’s a pig” one I didn’t flag it as being OTT. It said how, but didn’t specifically say how if you get my drift.

Just for the record, a copy of my pm to him:-
Dear Mr Commutator,
As a Moderator on UK Whitegoods I can say that I was less than pleased to see your post regarding access to fitting Motor Brushes on a Zanussi Machine:-
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … pic&t=7356
On the one hand your post was without doubt very helpful for anyone wishing to undertake such a task. But on the other hand leads to inciting very dangerous ground regarding electrical safety issues upon unqualified members of the general public. Furthermore specific and dangerous advise such as it was is reckless in the extreme when you are in no position to assess their capabilities of carrying out such work.
I am sure you would look very differently towards giving such advice if such a member of the public where to actually pay you for that information! Now had that been the case and that person was killed or injured as a result, you sir would in law be held liable for their injuries and would be brought up before the judge in court with not a leg to stand on. 🙁
Therefore can I ask that you consider the implications of giving such free and easy advise in future for the sake of yourself and those you give it to. 🙂
Regards
Martin

In addition….It seems our Mr Commutator is bringing into question the whole concept of advise given on this site. Quering the lack of a suitable ‘Disclaimer’ is one issue I cannot answer 🙁
Seems we have no such thing in place to cover the site overall, and I cannot find it if it’s there, is it?

I have to confess it aint exactly in you face but it is there on the front page but you have to click on it to read it.
I even accused his nibbs of not having one 😳 but I should have known better.
Lets face it, he usually has most things boxed off. and when he hasn’t he still comes up with the old favorite “I HAVE A PLAN” 😆Its on the top of the front page, the second line of site help and then hit the word ‘here’
