Only 1 of 4 heating elements working on Creda T622CW

I’ve been given a Creada T622CW condenser dryer that does not heat properly. When I checked – only 1 of the 4 bars on the heater was heating on high or low heat setting. I’ve cleaned out the fluff, replaced the heater – same problem. Checked and by-passed all 3 thermostats – same problem.
Is there any setting/point in the heating cycle when there is only meant to be 1 element heating up. Could it be the low/high switch?

Whilst there are four sections to the elements they are switched in banks of two. you should get two or four elements on, depending on the position of the High/Low switch. Live testing is something that is not advisable. or sensible, however, if you have the back panel off, it is normal to see only one element glowing for the very short length of time that it is safe to run in this condition. High/Low switch failure is uncommon, but not unheard of.

To be honest, a simple check with a multimeter or similar on this switch would suffice, without the need to test live with the back off.

You make no mention of actually checking the original elements for continuity with the correct equipment.

Please remove the plug if you intend to proceed further.

idom – thanks for the quick reponse.

The continuity test I did on the orginal heater elements was OK and so were the tests I did on the thermostats – hence my rash decision to take a look at what was happening when I by-passed the stats. So I wasn’t very convinced when a supplier of parts told me that the only thing it could be if I had by-passed the TOCs was the element. I’ll test the switch with a meter – no more live tests
