ParticipantWent out to a Servis machine this week, only 2 years old, dont have the model number to hand. the fault report, in typically vague terms, was,”It wont rinse or spin.” Time was tight as she had to go to work. Checked the filter, and it was smegged up to the eyeballs. Cleared filter, and tested rinse and spin, and it worked OK. Later the same day she is back on the phone. ” I just did a quick wash, and it has taken twice as long as usual.” Went Back next day, checked various things, and found heater open circuit. Changed heater, did some functional tests including rinse and spin. Seemed OK. I told her to try a load in it and call me back. She called back later to say it had done the quick wash prog in the normal time but had failed to pump out and spin. went back yet again, stripped pump and extracted a plastic label from pump. tested it on rinse and spin and it worked OK. She called back later to say it worked OK. Dont you just love this job… Short of running a machine through every programme, how do you avoid this sort of Fiasco?

Its a laff this game innit..i used to think icould eliminate comebacks like this if only i allocated plenty of time for each job & was really, really thorough.. that only helps a bit i find. Case in point couple weeks ago. Old Hoover Electron , leaking a bit, on original shaded pole style pump. New mag pump fitted, chatted with punter over nice cuppa while runnin machine through couple rinses.. “dont make em like these any more, blah blah ” says i. Next morning shes on the blower at 8am screaming that it flooded the kitchen overnight & water is still pouring from the soap drawer. Yep, the machine had rewarded my praises by sticking an inlet valve. nice. negotiations are ongoing but im gonna end up out o pocket methinks. Like i say,its a laff..

Why? even though it is not your fault your public liability insurance should cover this ( assuming you have it of course) its their job to argue the toss with the customer, thats what you pay them for.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Its tru that we pay for insurrance, but I personally would sooner end up slightly out of pocket than make too many insurance claims. Some times, I feel that the customer is at fault in supplying too little information, or inaccurate information. I had a case in point last week. Went to an AEG, customer said when she went to take the clothes out, she opened the door, and water flooded the kitchen. Went out , cleared filter, checked pump, every thing tests OK. Next day she is on the phone, saying It did it again last night. Went out machine is full up to soap draw, and leaking from door gasket. Drained machine down, and then found a badly leaking hot water inlet valve. What she had failed to explain, was that on the first occasion, there was a 3 hour time lapse between the cycle ending, and opening the door. The second time she called to say it did it again, she had not actually used the machine. An increasing problem in this area is migrant labourers who speak no eEnglish. All you get is “Vashing machine Kaput” All we can do is do our best.

Maybe cleaning out the air bell in the sump hose at the same time as the filter would have saved the heater re-call. Just a thought.

Jim. yep jim the insurance would cover it but she seems to backing off now her floor has dried out with no ill effects.. its only when i convinced her it REALLY was nothing i did that made the valve fail that she calmed down. Must get one of those t shirts with sh*t happens printed on it and simply point to it instead of trying to calm a hysterical punter.. yes that would work.. :rolls:
