ParticipantI’m in the process of kitting out my flat with a new kitchen.
I need an oven and microwave.
As space is of a premium and as this is just a one bed flat I thought I’d get a kitchen tower unit with an oven, and a microwave above it.
Then I’ve started to look at these combination microwaves. They make them quite large 40litres+
An example of what I’ve been looking at:-

Do they really work(well)?
Recommend a make/model?Thanks in advance, Monsoon.

Depends which way you want to look at it. If you are only cooking for one person and you don`t entertain then go with the micro / combi option. However if enternaining then I would have a single oven with a micro over the top. At least you can be cooking a couple of dishes at the same time.
Less time in the kitchen = more time with your`e guests 😉

I have a large Tesco Combination Microwave & Oven & grill (Non Built in) which I bought a few years ago in their sale for £39. Although it mostly just gets used as a microwave, I have baked with it, & use it as a third oven when I go into baking mode. You can have Oven only, Oven/Micro, Grill, Grill/Micro, or just micro on its own.
I have managed to cook a joint of pork in combi mode in around 18 mins. Crackling wasn’t as good as a normal oven but all the same the pork was cooked through. I have also used it to do pizza & bacon sarnies & have also used it to bake a sponge cake in combi mode and that was 4 mins.
Keeping it clean, can be a pain but obviously if you can afford a better make than mine, you will probably get a better result. – Go for it says I.
One thing I would advise, Keep clear of the LG SolarDom Light Oven, which is a mixture of Halogen & Microwave. It cost my sister £500 at Comet when it first came out, and it is pure rubbish!!!

Half the time it doesn’t cook things properly, making them charred on the outside and pink in the inside.

I’ve got a Smeg combi, and it’s brill, very fast indeed and not only that, it’s easy to clean because the grill element hinges down so you can use it as a rotisserie – never done that, but it makes it a heck of a lot easier to clean the roof of the thing.
Has a habit of blowing 12v transformers, but I’m sure this is the way we have it wired in, it’s unconventional to say the least and also gets turned on and off a lot.

Thanks for the replies on this.
I’ve decided to go for an standard oven and standard sized integrated combination microwave. I get the best of both worlds and it looks pretty standard when I come to sell my flat.
