Will keep my eye out for one. I have one or two on my patch still.
Brings back happy memories for me as my dad { sadly passed away last Dec } was working for Servis when they came out. He had one on test at home and had to fill out a report sheet on its perfomance or lack of!
They were certainly ahead of their time with fault codes digital display etc
Most parts seem obsolete now though 😥Graham

Hi Graham.
Thanks for that. Who was your dad? I was working in Barking from 1982. Great days.

most of them still running as customers built their kitchens around its non standard narrow size and are now stuck with them until they have a major Kitchen re fit. Must admit they were rubbish when new but I am amazed at how they have survived so reliably.

Just one of those machines that did not like to be overloaded. Mine is still running from 1982! Had two sets of bearings, one door lock solenoid and one element. 😀 Sadly the next time it goes out the door as the boss thinks she deserves a new one. :rolls:

We’ve got one on our patch with a Hitachi badge on it 😯
Last visit was to tell the customer her water pressure was too low to open the cold valve 😆
We had a couple of Sapphires too but haven’t seen them for a few years now so i assume they’re landfill…..

I had a Sapphire, the only brand new washer I ever bought. The module died a few years ago and I eventually broke it up for spares. I don’t think I ever saw another one but I did have a few customers with the Quartz machines. I’ve never done brushes on one but I suppose they were the same as the Hotpoint GEC type 😕

I have 2 Sapphires and 2 Quartz’s left on my patch. About a fortnight ago, I did a repair on a Sapphire for a customer in a mobile home with a postage stamp for a kitchen. The “flood” ( 😉 ) was found to be caused by a rotted pressure switch hose. Fitted new and away it went.
The last Quartz I repaired had a leaking door gasket courtesy of a rusted clamp band. The clamp is not available anymore, so I made a replacement out of a Hotpoint 18 series one I had in my workshop loft. Cut it down and remade the ends to fit. One relieved and very happy customer; she was aware that a new machine meant a new kitchen. “I’m 83 you know, I don’t want to be doing that at my age…..”!! 😀Steve.

hi here is a good one about Quartz. I was working for Servis,Bristol, and was sent to a new one only days old that had flooded.. Checked it all out with the switch box,all o.k. changed the water valves just in case. Few days later floods again,go back, check it all put a new pcb in. few days floods again, insist Morris Wilson [supervisor ]comes with me,can not find a fault ,throw every part we can find at it. few days ,floods again, all her hot water inches deep, she steps in it,and shrinks her slippers!Insists the machine is changed for a hotpoint.Months later, mystery solved, next to the m/c was a chest freezer, the compressor was causing the module to misbehave! 💡

As an electronic machine I think control system and fault codes led the market.
When I worked for Servis/Homecare I had a customer who swore he would never have another Servis machine because of the service (or lack of) he was receiving. He couldn’t believe it when I turned up to do an under guarantee call on his Hitachi! 😮
I have a few of these left that I work on but it’s getting to a point where parts are a problem. The hoses are perishing and the rubbers on the wheels split so moving this on a vinyl floor becomes a problem. I can’t remember the last time I had a board problem with one of these though.

I threw away a whole load of new parts only a month or so ago. Including solenoid door locks, blue and green boards, door boots, bearing kits.
Shame really, but I haven’t seen one of these machines in years. -
