ParticipantCalled to an customer today to repair her oven, And while there she asked me if I could have a look at her fathers washer at some point. The symptoms were: No drum action and timer stops, On a 5yr old First Edition, I told her it was proberly the brushes and would cost £35 to replace. In the mean time her father had called a local shop who have been trading for over 20 years, And when the engineer turned up he quickley diagnosed the brushes to be a fault, then added that the pump was faulty without testing the machine. He then quoted £130.00.
The old chap refused the repair and the engineer left with his £30 call out fee. No wonder a lot people think we are a bunch of shysters. 🙁
And No wonder Im busy

Hi goose.
What I meant by the double edged sword.
If you do a good job, like we all try and do then the sword is smooth. If however we do jobs like the other engineer you mentioned then the sword is sharp.
Basically good engineers work travels well amongst people, but a bad engineers work travels further.Greg 😀

Must have me silly head on tonight, Seriously though I just thought this outfit was way out of line with the quote, And when the chap asked the engineer, If he purchased a new machine from them, Would they deduct the call out charge from the purchase price. He said no!. Yet another local shop who have been trading 30 years would gladly refund the call out against a new purchase. Guess which outfit I would recomend to all customers to buy there new appliances from? Iam even talking to them about the ISE. And to sign up to UKWG.
