    Just a quicky !!!
What do you lads ( & lassies ) out there use to clean out grimy ovens and hobs? This is as much for me at home as for refurbing one for sale. Tried all the wonder cleaners to no avail and have just resorted to a sanding block.
    Thanks

years ago my dad used to sell paint stripper to the local electric board to clean the carbonised oil off cookers during reconditioning

    Re: oven cleaners

When we were doing some reconning we used to have big tanks of some sort of acid stuff, right nasty it was. H&S would probably have a fit if they saw it now, but it didn’t half do the job and well. But you really need to be doing a fair bit to justify that.

I have tried the various oven cleaners over the years, Mr. Muscle etc., and they work, to a degree, but I’ve not yet come across one that struck me as outstanding.

I haven’t yet tried that new Fairy stuff that Ainsley’s punting on the telly but I’d be interested to hear what it’s like and if it actually does what it says on the tin.

Small children…….. Threaten them with extra pocket money and they’ll scrub ’til you tell them to stop!

Chris, if you had lived in the Victorian era you would probably have been one of those people who stuffed kids up chimneys to clean them out !

Without a doubt the best oven cleaner is the little wifey – if you want to spoil her buy her some rubber gloves first – maybe as a birthday present.

That will make her feel ‘special’ and she will want to be nice to you 😉

This way you get your oven nice and clean and a few treats as well!

    Good eh? 🙂

We just aren’t allowed to play with Arklone anymore. That’d degrease anything, including the rest of your life. Well, probably – nasty stuff.

    Yep

But dont you just HATE those wifey’s who clean the cooker the night before you go out to repair there oven and the Mr Muscle is still all round the oven 👿

Knowing they havent cleaned it for the past 6 months

Come away with acid burns all over your arms and hands.. 👿

Thanks for all the replies ( even the wierd ones) and I don’t want a wifey, thanks, already been down there. Have now tried Rescue which seems to work better than most but will try some of the suggestions.

Have a look at Kitchen Economy….don’t know whethere they still do their cleaner chemical….I bought a gallon a few years ago and still use it now. It looks like a lumpy brown slop, hurts like hell if you get it on your skin but gets rid of anything after an overnight soak 😉

Kitchen Economy do still sell it but won’t send it to anyone via courier due to the content, most refuse to carry it I believe.

Same situation with refrigerant gas as well now 🙁
