I came across few oven jobs and found that small but essential piece of screws going missing thus interfering the fan motor and even with light fittings being left partially damaged.

I queried about this and the reply was this “I had my oven cleaned by this oven cleaning company recently /or a while back – since then it hasn’t been right.”

Has anyone come across with this kind of work caused by cleaning firm not putting things back properly?

I mean it’s small niggling things such as screws being missing/ not put back correctly – the Bosch oven are the tricky types as I can’t seem to get hold of replacement screws only the ones for securing the elements but not the actual cover.

Do they have to remove the panels to clean? In my experience I rarely see the back of the oven being filthy as they are well protected maybe the majority of my clients are very clean!

I have been presented with a smeg door in pieces as a cleaner had taken it apart and was unable to get it back together and its surprising how many failed fan elements I get that have blown just after it being cleaned.
I have also been blamed for a noisy fan after I changed an element but discovered on my return (free hence wasted!) visit that they got a cleaner out to it immediatly after my visit who had bent to fan blades in so much that it was barely able to turn, no way was it like that when I tested it.

Have to declare a vested interest in this first off as the wife runs an oven cleaning firm ,in my wifes case she removes the back panel to clean it and also the blade as well. All screws removed are kept in a pot and replaced afterwards she also carries a pot of self tappers etc just in case .However she to has come across screws missing etc and is happy to tell me that its us careless appliance engineers who are to blame via the customer :rolls: last person in syndrome i suspect or as with every trade theres the organised and the not so organised tradesmen/women 😉 Cras

Very true! Though it’s rather annoying as some screws are not that easy to get hold of particularly with older ovens. I had to make do with other types of screws. No doubt the next engineer would be scratching his head why on earth using a different screws.

This begs the question on liability on who is liable for the cost of repair after the oven cleaning. Often the case that the oven was cleaned a long time ago and therefore the liability kinds of rest with the owner of the oven. I even had one client who was wary of getting the oven cleaning firm out, instead she asked me if I knew how to clean it.

I admit that I have been caught out on that as I had never cleaned my oven at home as it self cleaning at super heated rate of 500deg. I do not know of a steam cleaner being effective despite the demo on QVC, what’s the verdict out there then?

I’ve never had issues with oven cleaning companies and welcome the customer getting them in to clean it before I attend a repair. I carry loads of odd screws, washers, t/stat fixing clips and odd metal grill mounting brackets, for any encounter.

Liability? Don’t beat yourself up about it twixy but play each event as it comes along. Just figure first off that ovens are dirty greasy heaps of tin boxes with loads of missing or rusted screws. Busted light lens’s and corroded stat phails……after that it’s childs play.

Finally QVC crap? Steam cleaning? Oh! Sounds like a load of bother and potentially more call-outs for me then? I love Color Catchers and Washer Balls too so please bring it on…!!

tbh they create work especially when they clean gas ovens and dont cover the burner 😉 im sure there must be legislation somewhere that they shouldnt be messing with gas appliances!

Guy opened a sandwich bar and decided his second hand range cooker could do with a clean.
Pressure washed it,elements and all, bang bang bang, oven elements grill element 🙂
“Surely they must be waterproof ” was his comment, not his fault :rolls: muppet.
    Hefty bill ensued ! 😀
