ParticipantHello! I have recently moved into a house and am now having problems with my oven.
It is a Miele oven and unfortunately the label is worn off, but I think it could be a model H 5360 or H 5460.
The oven heats up ok at first and I can see the element glowing, but then once it’s hot, after a while it won’t heat anymore. If the temperature is turned up the temp reading goes up very slowly and the element doesn’t seem to glow anymore. If it is left at the same setting, the food is not cooked properly. If left on for a while and then switched off and on again, I recall the temperature reading going down and starting much lower than what it had said before. Then only going up very slowly.
Tha same seems to happen with the grill. It works when on from cold, but then if the oven is hot and showing above problems, then switching to the grill, the grill does not heat up.
As it is happening with both the fan element and grill, I was thinking maybe it’s not a problem with the elements? Could it be the thermostat?
I’m aiming to repair it myself if I can. Can anyone help please?
Thank you!

Moderatorit will have a cooling fan, If this is not running the over heat stat will operate and switch the heat off

ParticipantThanks Dave. I have checked and there is a constant stream of air coming from above the handle, which I assume must be coming from the cooling fan. So do you think that could still be the issue?
It is confusing as it heats up, but then after that will only heat very slowly. I am going to check with a thermometer to see if the temperature is accurate.
Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

Moderatoronly manual i can find is here
does this match with yours
also elements may not glow as the oven turns them on and off to keep temp. if the grill glows you would grill the food rather than oven bake it

ParticipantHi Dave, thanks. Not sure if you posted a link or something, but I can’t see it? The only instruction manual I’ve been left by the previous owners is about automatic cooking programs and mentions a few different models on the back.
I did a test today with a thermometer and this is what I found:
Initially the oven did heat up. I set it to 180°C and although there was a lag, the thermometer in the middle of the oven did reach 180 about 5-10 mins after the oven said the temp was reached. I then checked every 10 mins and it stayed at 180 for about 30 mins and then these are the readings after that:
150, 132, 118, 105, 95, 88, 80. All this time the reading on the front was 180°. At this point I turned it off for 20 seconds. When I turned it back on, the front reading was now 76°.
Again I set it to 180° and these are the readings for the thermometer inside and the display on the front:
Inside: 72 / Front: 123
I: 69 / F: 146
I: 62 / F: 159
I: 60. / F: 166
I: 55 / F: 174Clearly there is something wrong as the oven was getting cooler, but the front reading was going up.
Does this mean it’s a thermostat problem?
Thanks for your help!

Moderatorthat makes it worrying
it seems the sensor is capable of reading the correct temp but the control unit starts to lose the plot after 30 mins
if you have to replace the control unit it wont be cheap knowing miele

ParticipantThanks Dave. Do you think the control board is definitely the issue?
I’m not sure what to look for, but did a quick search and it seems Miele boards are in the several hundreds of pounds.
I could ask a guy to come round, but if that’s the issue, looks like I’ll have to think about getting a new one.
thanks.

Moderatorwell it seems the sensor can read the temp but does not seem to be able to hold it
you just maybe have the same fault as i suggested on this post if its the same board
https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forum…-control-fault
oven manual

sorry i missed it

ParticipantThanks. That post is a different fault, but are you suggesting it could just be the same part on the board that is faulty?
It’s not something I’ve done before, but maybe this weekend I can try to get access to the board to have a look. I’ll post some photos if you think that would help?
Would hope the oven is still salvageable, but not really sure how to sort it at the moment!
Thanks for the manual. That’s the one I have which is mostly focused on cooking programmes, but there was another one there that looks like it could be the one. Cheers.
Thanks for your help Dave.

Moderatorthe part in that post has the job of providing power to the board or relays. you may get slightly different fault as the board runs out of power but if your board has this component they are so cheap its worth a try
what my thinking on this is. you turn the oven on and it heats. when it get to temp the relay drops out but the board has not got enough power to pull it back in. does not really answer the difference between the displayed and actual temps but as above at the price its woth a go and a lot cheaper than a new board if it works

ParticipantHi Dave,
I have opened up the oven to see the boards, but not not sure if/which parts match the one from the other post. The main power board seems to be ELP755, and there are some other boards. I couldn’t see any visual faults anywhere.
Here are some images: https://imgur.com/a/lvLcslE
Do you have any recommendations? Not sure what to do and don’t want to waste money on parts that might not fix the issue, so I might have to look at a replacement oven.
Many thanks.

Moderatorno thats completly different.
First thing i would do is check all the elements with a multimeter. bit of a long shot but my thinking is some ovens have a quick heat function and turn extra elements on during warm up. so if one element has failed the other will heat it but only till it gets up to temp
after that i would say its a miele engineer only job as that complicated and without tech info hard to fault find
