hi. i am attempting to fix my daughters oven. when switched on the element works as does the fan for approx 30 seconds, the fan then makes a whirring noise and stops. i have had the cooker out and can make the motor restart by nudging the motor blades with a screwdriver but it whirrs and stops again instantly. any advice please.

    please read.

TBH it sounds like a faulty fan motor.

tbh i am aware that the motor is faulty but why. what goes wrong with motors why wont it turn when it is clearly trying to?

Well as you haven’t yet bothered to tell us the make and model or the age of this cooker I can only guess.

The fan is failing to run due to normal wear and tear would be an educated guess. 😉

sorry. cooker is fairly new its a belling not sure of model. i dont think it has had that much use. and the motor looks brand new the all blades are fine. motor just seems tight.

It’s worn Nifty, it needs replacing. The phosphor/bronze bearings wear and seize on the shaft. A liberal dose of oil can be a tempory fix so perhaps that might be your next move. But ultimately that fan motor will need replacing and for that you will need to find the all important model number of your Belling. Over to you……..
