Oven FFP403X Type MR03. – new element tripping whole house

Hi

I recently purchased a new oven element from here, and successfully re-fitted into the rear of the oven (it had no access from the inside) which was relatively straightforward.

Oven has worked fine for passed two weeks, but yesterday, when my wife switchoven ed off using the front dials, the whole house blacked out, and the main electric switch in the fuse box tripped out.
When I pushed the switch back on, everything reverted back to normal, including the oven which works fine still. But when I tested it out again, I switched it on ok, and then off again, and it again tripped the whole house. 💡

Seems ok switching oven on but when switching off it then trips?
Any ideas how to fix much appreciated.

Hi Martin,

It could be the switch or the element that’s the problem but, from the sounds of it and the recent replacement of the element, I’d suspect the switch to be honest. Usually if the element is the cause they will pop the RCD when running and not when switched off.

Many thanks for your reply – sounds liek a switch issue as you say, as it’s only tripping after being switched off. Is there likley to be a lose wire or something behind teh siwtch I can access or would it be a whole switch replacement do you think?

Have a look at it as you will often see visual signs of arcing. 😉
