ParticipantHi
I posted earlier with a problem on my Smeg SUK60MFX cooker.
Oven, fan, grill will not operate. On closer inspection i have noticed that on some settings of the function knob (fan & one other but can’t tell which it is as it’s been washed off!) the red indicator light glows dimly.
After looking around this website i was inspired to have a go at fixing it and have since dismantled it after isolating the power. So far, so good.
The fan element appears to be intact and in good condition.
The fan spins freely.
The timer is on manual. The workings behind the function selector knob appear to melted/damaged. The white wire nearest to the centre of the cooker which is attached to the underside of the selector is blackened at the point where the connector touches the selector.
The black plastic thing with cams on it which turns when you turn the knob looks melted on the cam nearest the centre of the cooker.
A white piece of plastic is loose and stuck in the selector unit, again down the end of unit.
A small spring 3-4mm long had fallen out of the unit.
Can anybody help with what may have gone wrong and how to fix it, what part is needed etc
Many thanks

You will need a new selector switch and you will need to renew any burnt sections of wire. I just checked the online shop section of this site but they don’t list the switch. If you use the enquiry form facility they should be able to advise price and availability. Unfortunately I can’t find the manufacturers part number for the switch but it is listed as type 3073/21. Sometimes damage like this occurs if one of the wires to the switch was loose and sparking. Make sure on the new switch that all the spade terminals are secure. If any feel loose the female spades can be closed up slightly with pliers. Power off, of course :zap:

Great – many thanks.
Any advice on how to remove the part? I’ve only remove the top of the cooker but can’t see any screws. Maybe i need to remove the front panel?
Also, whilst i’m at it any idea how to replace the bulb? Tried to remove the bulb cover but it will not budge.
Cheers

811730118 is the part number for the function selector switch – spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly if you wish to proceed with this yourself.
Lamp cover is a screw thread – they get glued home by baked grease, so more force is required.
As this is a duel fuel appliance and the repair involves removing the gas top, we can’t advise you further. As a non-Corgi/GasSafe repairer, I would not be allowed to carry out this repair. As a private individual, you can do as you wish, but your houshold insurance position is potentially “interesting” if things go wrong…….

Ah, I had not appreciated it was a duel fuel appliance. It is always worth mentioning this point when making a query on here or booking a repair visit.
