I have a Diplomat 610 (AHY3300) oven. It has been in situ for a few years but was removed for a repair recently and I noticed the gas pipe for my hob has been run above the back of the oven. I tested the oven outside the cabinet and the rear was to hot to hold your hand on but not to touch. I put the oven back in the cabinet and run for 20 minutes at 200 then removed and the gas pipe was hot. Is this normal or is there a problem.

gas hobs must be connected to copper pipework when used above any heat producing appliance, refer to MI.HTH., 🙂

The gas pipe above the oven is copper. I was just concerned that it got hot.

I think you should concentrate on why the cabinet of your oven is possibly overheating? Rather than worry unnecessarily over a copper gas pipe. The oven should incorporate a cabinet cooling fan and that may not be working?

Martin It is a fan assisted oven with a small set of blades on the cabinet side, and appears to be running OK.

Cheaper products like diplomat tend not to have the same quality insulation as others,in time the insulation may have naturally compacted and not be as effective,it could also be normal, would depend on what are the acceptable design parameters.
You need an inspection IMO by either or both with the oven manufacture’s and your local corgi/gas safety registered engineer.
Safety is the major issue here and if in doubt don’t use the oven until you are informed it’s OK or otherwise.
Kitchens have been fitted to many different standards, quite depressing somtimes when you are removing fitted in appliances and see some of the “mess” that is called a fitted kitchen.

spimps, thanks for your advice. checked the insulation and it was extremely thin in places so I have decided to replace the oven.
