ParticipantHi wonder if anyone can shine a light on my problem. When I use my oven after about 10 mins it trips the mains . When the grill is on it works fine and the heat switch works normally off and on when temp setting is reached. It is only when the oven is working that it trips. It is heating up so I think I can rule out the oven element.

The element will be the problem. It will be going to earth once it gets hot.

Hi Bazza this is a reletavely new element which I purchased from this site probably about 8 months old do you think it should fail so quickly.

Any electrical or mechanical part can fail. If everything lasted 12 months or more there would be no warranty calls on any appliance with a years guarantee. To be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure you would need to insulation test the element however I would doubt any DIYer would have the equipment to do this. I am only basis my diagnosis on what you have written and my experience. With that I am saying it is 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} chance your element is causing the fault.

ParticipantOk thanks for that will ask the electrician in work to see if he can check it out for me, but what you are saying makes sense thanks for that.

ParticipantHi Bazza my mate in work checked out the element which had a reading of 500k ? he said he was not sure what the reading should be, he expected it to be higher. Any idea of how I can find what the correct ressistance reading should be. The element looks in good nick with no external signs of any faults. the cooker in question is a Diplomat ADP3310.

If the 500K you are talking about is an insulation reading( which I think it must be) then the element is the problem.
The resistance reading should be 20-50ohms(ish).

ParticipantHi Bazza between live and earth he was getting 500k ressistance but cannot remember the element ressistance, he was expecting at least 1 ohm perhaps we are getting the readings mixed up or I did not write it down correctly. I think I will bite the bullet and order a new element.

The reading between Live and Earth is the insulation reading and in your case is too low. The element will be tripping your electrics.

ParticipantHi Bazza just fitted the new element is thinner than the old one not sure if that has any significance but seems to be working ok thanks for your advice.
