ParticipantI have a Whirlpool 200 generation single oven (BSO800/WH/01) that is tripping the electric when the oven function is selected.
The grill works fine so I presume it is the base oven element that is faulty and will need replacing. Could the upper element be at fault too, or would it most likely be the lower element as it only trips when the oven option is selected.

disconnect the wires from the lower element. make sure they are safe and wont touch anything. now turn the oven on and see if it trips
if no then its likely its only the lower elementgen lower element

Thanks for the reply Dave, and thanks for the suggestion, I will try that out.
There seems to be a bit more to it now after a bit of testing though.
The oven has 3 settings, grill, lower oven and then full oven. If I set the temperature and turn it on to any of these settings the oven works and doesn’t trip out, however, if I leave it on the oven function and either let it get up to temperature, or turn the dial down until the thermostat clicks off this then trips the RCD without fail. It doesn’t trip on the other 2 functions as I don’t think these use the thermostat, they just heat to a fixed temperature. So it’s not tripping just by using the oven option, but if the desired temperature clicks off. Could this still be one of the elements, or is it possibly something else?

Thanks Dave, I will try what you’ve suggested first, but I’ve also managed to get hold of a multimeter so will test out the elements using that as well and hopefully work out which one is faulty.

Well I tried your suggestion Dave and disconnected the lower element and I couldn’t get it to trip out, I then also did a continuity test with the multimeter I had and got no reading, I then finally removed the element and it was badly split along one side so it’s safe to say it needs replacing!
Thanks for the advice, and the links. Out of the two you suggested which would you recommend? I know cheaper isn’t always the best option but how much more risk of failure is there with these compatible parts?
