    Hi,

I have a Whirpool american fridge-freezer model no. S20B RBB20-A/G. Approximately 3 weeks ago it started overheating to the extent that, the front of the vertical wall where the two doors meet when closed, is extremely hot. The frozen food remains frozen but the food in the fridge section is nowhere near as cold as it used to be.

Following the advice contained on your website I have cleared out a massive amount of dog hairs and fluff from under the fridge-freezer. Unfortunately this made no difference.

I then removed the bottom panel at the rear of the fridge-freezer and noticed that, although the condensor was too hot to touch, the fan wasn’t working. I’ve since replaced the fan with a new one but this also isn’t working. But immediately after replacing the fan the ice maker unit has started to play up: although it is making ice it isn’t then tipping it into the ice bucket which then causes additional water coming into the icemaker to overflow down the inside of the freezer and onto the frozen food below.

And the fridge-freezer is still running extremely hot so, as a temporary measure I’ve left the rear back panel off to prevent the condenser blowing up!

Whilst I’m a great believer in trying to repair items, have I now reached the stage of requiring a new fridge-freezer as this one is now over 9 years old? Or is there some obvious solution and approximately how much would I have to pay to get this fixed?

    Many thanks,

TBH, it could be any number of things and you’d probably be better off getting this looked at by an engineer familiar with the fridge freezer.

Nothing will blow up but, if the compressor is that hot then it’s running all the time I suspect but struggling to maintain the temperature. That could be for a few reasons.

All that said, with the cost of Whirlpool spare parts it may be better, at the age of it, to look towards a replacement.

    K.

    Many thanks for your advice.

I’m having difficulty finding an engineer familiar with Whirpool fridge freezers. Nothings coming up on your search facility. Do you know anyone operating in the north of Worcestershire/south of Birmingham area?
