    Hi,

My Panasonic Slimeline Combi Inverter Microwave, Model NN-A554W stops working after 5 to 20 seconds every time I try to use the microwave function even though the unit still has power. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

    Regards

    Mark

with these units if the microwave magnetron does not start the units stops the programme

its not a thing you want to mess with these units work on 5000v

get it checked by a professional

    Thanks for the reply electrofix.

Replaced Magnetron and now working fine. The unit does not have a capacitor, therefore was quite safe to work on once unpluged. Only an idiot would work on an inverter supplying 5000v to the magnetron whilst the unit was switched on! :rolls:

and there are a lot of idiots out there 😆

had a proffessional kill himself about 20 years ago when he took a positive fom a mag on one microwave to power another and did not realise it was earth return

What readings should you get with the magnetron?
I’m measuring 0 ohms across the terminals with the leads removed.
And open circuit from earth to each pin.
I believe this is ok but this is with the 9v battery of the multimeter and may be breaking down under full load?
Do the invertor pcbs fail much
Or is most likely still the magnetron?
Failing that what about a over temperature cut out? What do they normally read across them on this model?
Any help appreciated as I have exactly the same problem.
I’m guessing that it’s unlikely the control PCB as the microwave ‘appears’ to work for about 10 seconds then stops. If it was the control panel not running for the correct time presumably it would work for only ten seconds but still heat for this time but it isn’t.

with ref to my warning above about the danger !!!

mag should read low ohms between terms and very high to earth

yes boards do go but most of the time when they do it blows fuses

it is prob a mag failure but you cannot rule out board failure as well as you cant test it without working mag in circuit

    Dave

be warned if you touch mag circuit when it on or just turned off you wont get a second chance if in doubt get a prof in to do it
