    Hi,
Our Panasonic microwave did something very weird this evening. We were warming a ready meal for 5 mins on full power. The timer bleeped zero and my wife opened the door which then exploded open breaking the top catch off the door and spraying her with hot food. The meal had been pierced so I don’t think it exploded for that reason.

Since doing this the plate will not rotate and it doesn’t heat anything. The light and fan comes on but you can’t hear the power ‘kick’ in? I’m assuming the door closed sense is done by the bottom door catch as it looks like there’s an actuator behing the latch, so it will still let you program a time and switch it on but it doesn’t heat.

Anyone any ideas what might have happened? I’m thinking perhaps a control board? Also is it going to be cost effective to fix?

    Cheers,
    Mark.

Almost certainly the packaging wasn’t sufficiently pierced, it’s entirely possible that if there were only one or two small holes the food could have moved to plug them…you must always ‘riddle’ the packaging with holes to prevent pressure build-up.

The good news is the machine is probably easily repaired..the broken door hook will need replacing and a full leak test done to check the door isn’t damaged, but it will probably be ok.

Hope your wife is ok and hasn’t been put off preparing dinner? 😆
