This might sound like a really stupid question but I can’t find any reference in the instructions…

I’ve just got a new oven and there is a rectangular piece of material (possibly plastic) inserted into some slots covering a rectangular recess on the right hand inner wall. I’m not sure whether this material is supposed to be discarded or whether its part of the oven?!! It does come out quite easily and is fairly flimsy…

    Help please!!!

Panasonic – great ovens, cr@p instructions!

    Hi Ade,
the part you are describing sounds like the cavity cover and should not be removed, is it a buff coloured rectangle.

    Hi Bob

Yes it is buff coloured. It just seemed so flimsy my natural reaction was to take it out! It looks a bit “heath-robinson” – rectangular with a corner removed.

Also when I warmed up a cup of tea for 10 secs, it carried on making a noise (like it was cooking) after the beeper had sounded but the turntable was not going round. Does this sound normal?

I probably sound like a total thicko but neither of my previous ovens did that (the last one was 12 years old so no doubt they’ve changed since then!).

    Grateful for any advice.

    Cheers

    Hi Ade,
the rectangular piece is the waveguide cover, and should not be removed. The noise you can hear when the microwave has finished is the cooling fan motor, and is perfectly normal to keep running for a period when the cooking time has finished. It can run for approx 10 seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on how long the microwave has been cooking for.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks Merv, that’s great. Why on earth they can’t put stuff like that in the manual I don’t know!

    Cheers
